I haven't seen this mentioned as a factor but I believe it is affecting some people's decision on whether to enter the monthly:
It was one thing when you were granting permission for a small, 'family' run company to use your artwork, and it's another thing entirely when you are giving it away to a mega-corporation like Microsoft. |

As far as I'm concerned we, the user community, dropped the ball there. Only one entry in the VE category, only one Animation even remotely approaching finished state, only one entry from the MMC... that's a called a piss poor effort where I come from.

That's actually incorrect - it would be more accurate to say that only one MMC entry has shown up in the honourable mentions - I submitted my image and others may also have done so (or may not - who can say?). We already know that not every image submitted every month appears and I can confirm this is the case this month. So, in fairness, you don't know what was submitted for the stills. That's not to say I disagree with you on the animation and VE side of course.
Personally, I don't enter to win as I don't have any expectation against so many experienced artists and am pretty delighted with an HM (and serioulsy chuffed to get my image used temporarily on the site's front page). Whilst VRay would be nice, I'm used to LW and have yet to master that and don't really have the time at present to get to grips with another render engine (it's going to be tough enough to get to grips with 7.6) and the other prizes certainly don't look enticing. I confess I've only entered a few times over the last year and need to up my output (and my quality) and will aim to do so. Hopefully when I'm up and running properly with 7.6 I can work towards some VE entries but I'm unlikley to be animating anytime soon. |

I agree about the entries Nez, I think I entered mine as well, although I didn't have much hope as the view I had was not that good, wanted to experiment with different views but ran out of time... also wanted to do a flyby anim for the comp and a VE but never got around to it, perhaps next month... |

Fair call Nez - and realistically I can't be too self-righteous as I don't enter every month.
Actually my main fear is that the Monthly Gallery will get discontinued before I get a chance to win Vray!!;);).
But I've said all I want to say on this subject other than I want to see lots of entries to the gallery as it makes me feel proud to belong to a community that is proud enough of there efforts to want to show the world what they can do by hanging their art in the gallery 0 regardless of who's name is above the door. |

well, i am very glad to have my images displayed in the gallary with my first submissions :)
and regardless of the discussion, would probably do so again as often as i can ...
it is a very good reference to have your work shown in the official gallary of the company who's software you are using, isn't it ;) |

Totally agree with that; this is a great community and one I much enjoy being part of and it would undoubtedly be great to see more entries.
And don't worry, I wasn't for a minute calling you 'self-righteous', just pointing out you can't tell what was submitted based on what is shown. And frankly I'm surprised that you've not won VRay yet - what did you get for the VE win? |

LOL - I was calling myself self-righteous - believe it or not it's been known to happen;);).
For the VE win I assume I didn't win anything - hard to call it a 'competition' with only one entry!
As far as winning Vray goes, I'm half way there with credit from earlier wins.... if the Great Flying Spaghetti Monster (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Gospel_of_the_Flying_Spaghetti_Monster) thinks I should get a copy then eventually I'll get one I guess:D |
