Hello

I have a problem. I was using truespace 7.6 and everything was fine. But after I reinstall windows, and install truespace again I have an error message(in attachment). Can anyone tell me where is the problem?

You need DirectX installed. I think the problem is that it wasn't installed with Windows on your reinstall, so you'll need to download and install it now.

Be sure your video drivers are up to date also.

HTH!

I have the same error message but in my case it's sadly not as simpe as updating DirectX; been there, done that, didn't work...

Upon checking my graphics card seetings it has become apparent that there is actually a problem with the hardware acceleration on my card (a QuadroFX1000) - i.e. it's not providing any acceleration at all. tS will run (model side only) using software emulation for the DX mode, and won't show anything at all for Workspace (just an error saying 'rendering temporarily unavailable').

Hopefully this won't be the case for you, but there's a possiblity that just fixing yiour drivers won't do it - I'm still waiting on my IT department to replace my card but not optimistic. At least I can still use Model side, which is all I really want anyway for now....

Quadros are mostly designed with OpenGL in mind, and also around the concept of specific graphics card drivers for specific software applications. They are not good for games, for instance, and tS went the route of using the public, common approach that games take, using DirectX. This means tS runs well on "home" cards, but not so well on the "pro" cards like Quadros. The aim was to ensure great performance on affordable and common hardware, without the need to update to specialist cards like Quadros - and the result is that the specialist cards actually run tS significantly worse.

Though a total failure to render at all doesn't apply to all Quadros, this machine has a Quadro 570 for instance, and it does run workspace without any problems. Admittedly much slower than my 8800 in my other machine though! It runs about as well as a 6600 or so though, which is fine for most usage.

Thanks!

Tom
