Now I'm not really complaining here, even though this is the R&R section. Howz come I am a Jr. member? I mean guys like Ambrose, Andy K. and Janet Berg are also called Jr. members. I have been using tS for some time as have the afore mentioned, whilst others have come on board years after us and they are called senior members. Why the dis? :( :jumpy: And what is this distinguished road we all seem to be on? :D

I believe it has to do with the number of posts you have not how long you have been registered.

Hope that helps,

Dave

Yeah, I think it's post count, cause I really don't think of myself as a senior member :P

Yes, no-one decides when you become a different rating - that rating is PURELY the number of forum posts, and is handled automatically by the forum software. Andy Kay for instance no longer posts here, so he will be a Junior Member for a long time :)

So the rating is not anything to do with being a Caligari user, it is simply your number of forum posts.

The two exceptions to that rule are when we over-ride the setting to say "Beta Tester" or "Team Caligari" - otherwise, we do not interfere with the automatic rankings done by the forum software :)

HTH!

I want to know how many posts before you get the moniker of Supreme Being! :)

I've also no idea what the 'distinguished road' is either, or what the reputation points are and what to do with them. Couldn't find anything about them in the FAQ either. Maybe someone could enlighten us?

I want to know how many posts before you get the moniker of Supreme Being! The same number of licks it takes to get to the tootsie roll center of a tootsie pop. :p

Maybe someone could enlighten us?You can give positive or negative points along with optional comments to others by clicking on the scale in the upper right corner of peoples posts. So for instance, if someone is helpful you can give them a positive point. I suspect the bar grows and/or changes colors when you get more points. If someone is in the red, it means that not too many people care for what that person is posting on the forums. So it's kind of like a popularity reference for others. I don't know that too many people actually use it though. :)

You can also check out your points and comments by clicking on your own scale and then from there, going to your user control panel.

Based on what I've seen on the other forum I visit (related to drumming rather than CG) the reputation system can be a nuisance if people pay too much attention. As described above, you can give/receive positive/negative reputation to another forum member - how much you give depends on how much you already have (and also how senior you are I think - if I remember right, Junior members effectively only give neutral rep). 'Rep' seems to be a fairly standard option in vBulletin based web forums such as this one.

As you receive more, you get more and more little green boxes, and the message changes to things like 'so and so is splendid to behold', etc.

In theory, it should be a measure of how valuable others find your contribution to the forum, but it has a tendency to get abused by spammers/trolls etc, who quickly end up with huge reputations by 'repping' each other, whilst those who actually contribute ignore the system and know who the worthwhile contributors are anyway.

Although I've only been here a few days, it's apparent that this forum is used in quite a restrained manner, with a comparatively small number of active members and relatively small number of posts per day and pretty much no mis-use, and it appears the rep system is not only not abused, it's basically ignored which is probably for the best. The other forum I frequent has hundreds of posts a day, much of which is drivel, with a great many threads/posts of no value whatsoever! We now have an option there to turn off our rep indicator to show that we don't care about rep.

Hope that's some help.

NB - on my other forum, you move from junior to senior member at either 30 or 100 posts I think - can't remember for sure, it's a long time ago. At that point I think you could change the bit of text under your name to whatever you wanted, within reason - sounds like that option may be disabled here?

You can change the title under your name once you are no longer a "junior member". Think it was something like 30 posts.

I'm happy to be a junior member here because I wouldn't want people to mistakenly think I knew what I was doing in trueSpace!

;)

I'm getting through these tutorial courses as fast as I can... I'll be sure to post some WIP when I get them started!

I think if it were to be abused Norm would deal with the miscreants fairly quickly. There's also the fact that you have to be a registered Caligari customer to become eligible for forum membership. Plus, all registrations have to be approved manually by Norm. Both of those factors together make it much harder for the forum to gather a collection of trolls.

0-29 = junior

30+ senior

I only just noticed the other day that I could. On another forum [also vBulletin] custom titles weren't available until you reached 1000 posts. When I hit that milestone I went & checked for it, as I had noticed that other proTeam members had had their titles changed accordingly [I assumed by Norm when he added them to the pT user group], but mine hadn't been, so I wanted to see if I could do it myself [I could].

I considered several alternative titles, but wasn't sure I'd get away with them. :D

Well, I'm not a "Senior Member", but the "Member" title sounds a little more diginified than the "Junior" title :D

It doesn't look like a "Member" has the ability to change the title under their name.... damn, if I want to get back my Beta Team Member subtitle I am going to have to get Norm to fix it up, I was hoping this would work for me... oh well, at least I'm not "Junior" anymore... now I have to think up another sig....
