I take that back.
After more time using it I just have to say that I (still) really dislike the new Library system.
Clunky, clunky clunky and there's no other way to describe it. Well, I'm sure there is, but I've already spent enough ink on the subject.
You're fooling yourself if you think it's easy or efficient right now.
Caligari: streamline this puppy. Concentrate the tools into one spot. Allow me to use Windows file handling requesters/tools. Allow hotkeys for saving stuff.
I could go on but I feel I'm

Can you open the Library Browser and then Right Click in empty space and select Create Library Place?

I see you guys are frustrated with new libraries. Good news about the libraries is that they are more powerful than the old ones. Our Beta testers gave us very high marks for new additions, like drag and drop from/to desktop or even Outlook etc.

But maybe we lost sight of less experienced users. I will read this thread carefuly, feel free to post your coments. Maybe we should add some less experienced testers to our Beta group, we used to have a good mix in past.

I don't see a problem with the new Library.
OK it's not as polished yet as it could be but the flexibility is greater as the old libs sys.
The drag&drop possibility is one thing, the other that you can store everykind of format into on folder (ok this can become confusing if you don't know the work "tidiness" :D)

The thing that ctrl+s not work for save is indeed a pity but think not a big problem to add, there the new lib system does also just link and mirror to your created folders in the explorer.

I wish I'd read this thread before starting to learn libraries.

I also "by mistake" closed the main library place...(actually I deleted it because I only wanted my own stuff there :p )

This was not a good idea, because it completely screwed up the use of VRay materials in Workspace ( trying to choose color, reflectance, displacement and transparancy shaders only gave empty libraries.)

I restored it by resetting truespace ( the ikon together with NewScene)

An entire library place (and all libraries inside it) can be restored

by creating a new Library Place, pointing to the correct folder (for example: ....trueSpace75\tS\Rs Main Libraries") and give it the same/new name.

Doing this and giving it a new name didn't solve the lost vray-shaders problem, but it might have if I'd given it the correct name...didn't test that though.

So, I have to agree that the ts7.51 Libraries isn't exactly easy to grasp when used to ts6.6.

Just experimenting wasn't enough...had to read the manual first and then do some testing

Overall, now when I understand how the libraries work...I love it.

Much better than the old stuff. :D

However, it would be nice if tS stored small thumbnails for images and only updated them if a timestamp was different...currently my HDRI library takes painfully long to load.

Oh, and the Main Library should either be impossible to close, or "not causing other things to fail" ;)

the only real issue is that when you try to reopen the main library you must spell it exactly the same[as long as you didn't delete it :( ] so there should be an open option for exusting libraries ..

the vray shaders don't work if the name of the main library place is different either..;)

Good to hear that it would have been enough to use the correct name :D

When I discovered the vray problem I'd already forgotten what the name was...and it wasn't until after the reset I remembered that the images in the manual showed the name :o
