A few users here have been kind enough to send me custom widgets for Object Movement and Object Editing. This fixes most of the problems I have with Widgets but not all.
Why do Widgets move off the screen? Sometimes their halfway off or completely off and you cannot get to them. That should have been addressed before the Product went out the door!
Before any new tools are developed these widgets must be looked at. There used ALL THE TIME. |

I second that emotion.
The widget should be orientated relative to the viewport rather than tied into the scene, I should always be able to see all the widget's component parts as if the widget is fixed (mostly) to the plane of the screen I'm looking at - rather than as it appears at the moment, fixed to the scene in some fiendish way so I have to move within the scene to see all parts of the widget.
I spend time rotating my view to see the required part of the widget. Double exclamation mark. Who ordered that it is utterly bonkers. Not the best design choice for me but perhaps too deeply embedded now to change
It is fairly irritating when trying to find the widget in a closeup scene and this is happening a lot lately - I have to pull back from an object to see the widget it hides outside the viewport. I sense it mocks me. That feature is a very poor design choice or implementation

Stan,
First I want Caligari to fix the problem.
In the mean time I have a question, Is it possible to have a duplicate Widget that stays in it's position? If your familiar with Silo that is what I'm talking about. This way the main widget is used but if it goes off screen I can use the permanent second dupe fixed widget instead.
If this is not possible then my other fix would be this.
Fix the location of the "Steinie Widget" which is the point edit Widget.
Another Navigational Widget TrueBlue made for me ( thicker easier to see) I can move by selecting the center ball and placing where I want. There are times I wish I could lock it in place. Can that be done? If not a second duplicate widget would be cool.

you can move the steinie edit widget the same way..don't think you can lock them unless they are always locked with screen coords but..
at the moment the problem I'm incountering with a stationary wiget is it too moves off screen but when you zoom in ortho views.. |

Sorry Stan I should have stated you can move yours too. It is the locking unlocking that would be a benefit or a dupe widget. I'm not sure what is possible. If I can lock it I would need a way to unlock. |

Steinie, I figured out how to keep a widget fixed in ortho..[wil be fixing my axisguide widget]..I can make it so it stays next to the view widget, but is movable. easiest way is to make it a seperate widget set apart from the steinie's widget, then you could turn either set off..also I can make widget scale hotkeys -+ [as an upgrade to the steinie's widget];) |

this one will stay where you leave it..don't think a lock is required..maybe I can use the same call on the steinie's widget then it should act the same way;) |

Steinie, the nav widget is done..it actually is the steinie's widget with hotkeys to lock it.[ and ] ..guess its default install location should be above the view widget until it gets moved..it has - + hotkeys to change the size of the widget..just have to do the locking edit one..;) |

its posted in the garage..better to keep all my d/l's in the same place..;)
hope its what you wanted..when you go back to standard Steinie widget from locking mode the lock position is reset to default position next time you use it..that's the only way I could make it work..Gord  |
