Holy @%#$, I just scored a:

18689 kb/s download
1282 kb/s upload
13ms ping

at:
http://www.speedtest.net/

I'm using Comcast Cable for my internet ISP and I'm wondering how that stacks up with other TS users from around the world....

I'm wondering if enough of us have faster connections now, if Caligari can offer even larger downloads to it's users than the usual 100-200MB downloads for things like TS, Video Courses, and the manual.

Maybe even release large texture/AVI/material packs to replace the default TS textures...;)

I would say that's pretty darn good. I am about the same as splinters with a DSL connection, give or take a few.

I don't see why not. Anyone that still has dialup would probably just order by snail mail anyway. My ISP has a download limit per month of 60 GB and I have regularly downloaded 3-4 GB Linux distros . It does take a few hours (4?) but I do it overnight.

Dont know what you're complaining about Hemulin :)

655 down, 261 up, and paying through the nose for it - that's what you get for living in the middle of the countryside!

Wow thanks for all the test data guys!

Alright not to rub salt in the wounds :p but I tried it again just to see if I got a lucky result:

http://www.speedtest.net/result/193179563.png (http://www.speedtest.net)

I used the server in Frederick, MD. It seems to give me much better results even though it's twice the distance (~100mi) of the server in DC (~50mi). Funny thing is that Frederick, MD is up in the mountains... out in the boonies. Go figure. LOL

Hardware is:
Motorola SB5101 Cable Modem
DLink DIR-625 (It's a wireless-N router but this system is connected to it with CAT5e cable. These things are insane fast. My sister's Asus C90s Laptop can pull down from it at over 1000kb/s over the wireless. :D)
Ethernet card is build in: Asus P5N-E SLI (nVidia 650i chipset)
OS: Windows Vista Ultimate x64

Looks like the average is Highspeed DSL equivalent speeds of 2000K, really all you need for most internet usage and gaming, but maybe not really high enough for DVD sized downloads. Surprising that there aren't more high scores though...

I am curious, what would you guys say is the largest file size that you'd want to DL from Caligari or for a Caligari related product?

Using the nearest server (~150 miles away):

6161 / 566

It's Qwest DSL though, so predictably my ping is poor - 93ms. In actual use in games, the best ping I can hope for is around 60ms, it's a result of the way Qwest in particular sets up their DSL.

You're only getting that with FIOS? I thought it was supposed to be superduper fast?

I didn't get the fastest one they offer, this is the 5meg speed, they offer a 25meg one but this one is plenty fast for me. :) I'm actually saving about $8 a month over what I was paying for DSL. I can always upgrade to the faster one later if I need more speed.

Those are good speeds for the lower speed DSL. One of my friends on DSL said that they offered him the faster DSL but that he was able to save money by going with the slower one. Sounds like he made the same choice you did b_scotty. :)

I'd like to see some results from the 25Mb DSL, if it can actually perform at it's rating then that would faster than most cable connections.

I think the reason mine is running at 25Mb is because my neighborhood was having signal quality issues and I think they just came through and replaced the hardware. Could be that the new equipment they are putting in is 25Mb to compete with Verizon's new service...

I definitely think it's good to see DSL being competitive again.

All I was able to read was that my ping is 194. Anyone here that complains about their speed should try Dial-up for a bit...then get back to me. ;)
