Well I see TS7 is now shipping (I think). I have been wondering about this purchase, I started with TS2 when it was released (good stuff at the time) updated to TS3, a bit of a pain with directX...caligari then released 3.1 and this at first had to be purchased (it was classed as an upgrade,.. if my memory serves me right..it included openGL and some other bits, (cant remember now, I should of found it and checked)) This upgrade was then given away in the 3.2 update (that did not go down well at the time), anyway I then upgraded to TS4 with the update .1 .2 and .3(still dont have the password for the .3), and still buggy

TS5 I found very buggy and never upgraded, 6.6 crashed my system on all attempts to install, so never purchased that.

So, on this release (TS7), there will of course be some bugs (no prog is perfect on first release), so at some time a patch will have to be released, but from all accounts caligari will be working on the 7.1 release (which will have to be puchased), so, will this be the same as the TS3, where a purchase is required to get bug fixes.

Regards to all

As far as I know, the 7.1 upgrade is just that; a major upgrade but which is free to those who purchases 7.0 within the offer period just before launch. For others, a very small cost was mentioned. Any significant changes to TS with regards to stability, features, UI etc. will be made available in a patch (7.02 was mentioned). You should not have to pay for this if you are a registered TS7 owner.

Thank you for the replies.....

As far as I know, the 7.1 upgrade is just that; a major upgrade......I think what was mentioned was "character animation" which is introduced in TS7 but not fully implimented untill 7.1. Could you expand on what would be the "major upgrade",... is this known (apart from what I have mentioned).

7.1 will be free update for those who own 7.0.....I was going off what I have seen advertised, as mentioned by "splinters", there was an offer, that if you purchased TS7 before release, then the 7.1 would be free, otherwise a charge would be made. Has this now changed??

I am itching to buy new 3d software, but as this is only my hobby, i dont want to end up spending cash on software that may be buggy for months (as with previous versions of TS)

Dont get me wrong, I am not trying to slag the software, I still use TS4 from time to time, but have always had to work around to stop the pgm crashing. I really dont want to have that again.

With there not being a demo version available, this makes me dubious.

I know caligari have the 30 days money back garantee...but if I have problems with bugs...would I just return, or wait it out hoping the patches (which may not arrive in that time period) will fix the problems.

I hope you can see why I "cant make my mind up"

Best Regards

I had forgotten about the free upgrade to 7.1. thanks Tomas. With that in mind I would not hesitate to purchase 7.0 if your only concern was the upgrade....

I think the free upgrade offer has been over.

I always felt 4.3 was stable (for me) although I do not do animation.

Unless I have missed some pertinent info along the way, you have already missed the opportunity to buy 7.0 and recieve the free upgrade.

Of course, depending on how sales are going, Caligari could always change their mind and make the update free. Or they could do so for whatever reason.

As far as the upgrade cost, perhaps those who have access to proTeam forums are privy to more classified info, but I am not sure 'very small cost' will be the correct term to use, but I could be wrong. The price people expect to see for an upgrade to a program in the price range of tS is at least $99. 'Very small' would tend to make one think the price would be lower than that, otherwise 'average cost' would be a better term.

It was made clear that 7.1 would cost less than the aniPak, which is $199.

Just to clarify, the upgrade to 7.1 at no charge was for those who purchased in the pre-order period only (ie, prior to the release of the software). Those who purchase now will not fall into that category.

No pricing details have been given about upgrading from 7.0 to 7.1 for those who don't fit into the above category - the pricing details will need to wait for later.

Hope this clarifies things!

Thanks!

This was what was posted in response to my speculation in the legacy forums:

The $995 figure is not based on any fact and not on anything from the company!. I would ask that people not post information as factual that they have no reason for doing so - the post there was that it would be $199 for the animation upgrade, when we have made no statement on the cost of that upgrade.

So that figure is pure conjecture on the part of a user and not founded on what the company has said or is doing. Also note that the person had added the full price of buying VRay outside of the promotional special too, which is $299 on its own! VRay obviously has nothing to do with animation fixes or the upgrade to 7.1, so that is $299 in that figure which has nothing to do with that topic.

And then do note that yes, those who upgrade now in the pre-release period receive 7.1 for free. You can do the math and get some sort of conclusion then as to how much we were thinking of when we were talking about a "low cost upgrade" - if it was going to be a large amount of money, then we could hardly offer it for free if you order now.

With all that out of the way, onto other things in this thread!

After reading that I think most people would conclude that the upgrade would be low cost. But I guess it really boils down to the individuals idea of what low cost means.

Unregistered, the question you must ask first is can you afford the price?

If you can then you must ask is this the software solution for you.

I am a trueSpace addict. I have played with this software since 2.2 and have had fun doing it. I play with technology and have fun doing it but I achieve little. Do you want to achieve or have fun? Either way it is a hard choice. There are many choices out there. For many they have invested a lot of time learning to use trueSpace and do not want to invest in learning a new program. If you do not have this time invested in trueSpace you must consider which software best suits your needs. Download demos and work hard with each and then make your decision. Lots of luck.

Thank you all for taking the time to reply,

Unregistered, the question you must ask first is can you afford the price? The price is o.k., I have a budget of £1000 (pounds) for the software (anything left will go towards new hardware)

If you can then you must ask is this the software solution for you.

I am a trueSpace addict. I have played with this software since 2.2 and have had fun doing it..I was hooked when I first used TS2, and did stick with the software, purchasing all upgrades up untill TS4, but I did feel let down by caligari through that time. There where bugs in the early versions that never got fixed (hard to describe in words, but simple to show in TS) I did report the bugs at the time, as did others, but nothing was done.

Do you want to achieve or have fun? Both, I have fun in achieving the projects I set myself.

.....you must consider which software best suits your needs.Software that does what it says on the box

Download demos and work hard with each and then make your decision.I have used many, and could probably be going round in circles on this for a long time. I just want to get back settled with one (maybe 2) programs. (In the past, I always used TS and Rhino)

Lots of luckThank you,..... no doubt I will be back with more questions.

Regards

Hi all,

Yes the price for the 7.1 upgrade will be "low price" - that we can tell you. However, we can't be more specific than that at the moment as to what "low price" will turn out to be exactly.

It won't be a bank-breaker though :)

HTH!
