Hello all :)

I have some things to say.. Well.. for some time I did search around for news on trueSpace software. Didn't know if I shoud buy Lightwave of Truespace 6.6..

hmm.. these forums helped a lot in my decision.. i did see impressive stuffs around.. did read many discussions about all of the subjects.. it was enough.. I did choose truespace 7, and comments of other people and some screenies convinced me about the power of VRay in ts7..

Well.. thats the package I'm gonna use in my career :D

I used the free version of gameSpace to learn how caligari tools work.. As a game developer, I found gameSpace perfect.. will buy tS7 with vray to make some sweet looking movies ;)

Well.. as a gameSpace user, I say to anywone that doesn't know what software to choose: trueSpace is the best software for modelling. that's easy to learn, the icons are pretty neat.. the rest of the interface is perfect. trueSpace makes modellig a very funny work.. not tedious like 3DMax 8 (I tried it.. that's pretty tedious and dirty).. and with VRay, trueSpace just kicks everybody's a** ;)

I have some questions (the answers won't change my opinion on trueSpace.. these are just additional thoughts ;):

1_ What is the version of VRay for trueSpace 7? are there possibilities on updating VRay for tS? what to say about the coast?

(I found the current version perfect.. but lets think about the future a little bit ;)

2_ Does tS 7 have some tool to create stuff like fur? (not necessary.. I know that there are some techniques to create realistic ones ;).. just curious)

3_ WHY tS7 with VRay is so cheap? =O

4_ Will the current shader libraries work ok with VRay (the stuffs like "glass shader", "caligari metal enhanced", "shadow catcher" etc etc as well as the other time of shaders) or will I have to use VRay's specific materials?

5_ And what about the tS's lights working with VRay? are the trueSpace (skylight, projector, area spot etc) addapted to work well with VRay?

6_ WHY tS7 with VRay is so cheap?

that's it :)

thanks for the opportunity..

1) Current version is VRay 1.0 for trueSpace 7. The 1.0 implies there could be updates in the future.

2) No native hair/fur in trueSpace 7.1.

3) See 6)

4) Some native shaders are renderer specific and only work with LightWorks, VirtuaLight or VRay. Other shaders will work with more than one render engine, in which case the shader settings are translated over for the new engine as closely as possible. Almost all third party shaders were written for LightWorks.

5) Most lights work with VRay - omnis, spots, directional, area etc. In some cases, the lights have been enhanced to work better with VRay than they otherwise would. Some lights don't work with VRay though - skylights are one and projector lights I'm not sure of.

6) See 3)

maybe they are using an earlier version of Vray thats why its cheap?

I dont know vray version number, but some package claim they use ver 1.09.

caligari use 1.0 on there package sales. this sounds like the beta/free version , maybe they got a license to adapt this version for caligari.

1.0 is our caligari internal version number. We used latest VRAY SDK to build trueSpace VRAY 1.0.

Vray for TS is nearer to the function of Vray advanced than the free one. Also, I believe there are more features that could be added to Vray 1.0 using the existing code....

The version number is specific to the package. This is the first version of VRay for trueSpace, so it is called VRay 1.0 for trueSpace. The 1.0 does not reference the actual VRay code version, it is the implementation number.

The VRay code used for trueSpace is neither free nor beta - part of the cost of VRay for trueSpace covers the licensing fees to Chaos Group.

Hello all :)

6_ WHY tS7 with VRay is so cheap?

I ask that myself. The truth is V-Ray1.0 for trueSpace7 is an amazingly good value for the money. TS7.1/Vray1.0 images are just started to come out and as they say the proof is in the pudding. Watch this forum.

thank you guys for the nice posts.. :)

hmm.. could Caligari start a great competion for ts7.1 + VRay users?

It would be good for the company as well..

I had a look the whole gallery (the monthly one gallery at the home page) and got really impressed with some stuffs that the people finish with tS..

but.......

that gallery isn't enough, in my humble opinion..

Caligary should create a new gallery with the a** kicking pics.. A gallery with a dense concentration of brilliant works make the future buyers very happy and much moro secure about the power of the software ;) so the user would be sure that he/she would depend on his/her skills only..

I'm say this because of what is on the other hand:

sorry, but some works I see around would drive still-non-users off of tS.

Look:

_ Lightwave and tS7+VRay: both of them are great!! and the prices are really low..

why tS is better:

_ because it makes modelling and animating really easy and fun;

_ and the rest you can get done with the great renderers..

why would most people choose Lightwave instead of tS:

_ because it's gallery does show the BEST of what users can do with it..

And did see few *top level finished works around..

Well.. I noticed one thing: I saw a pic showing caustics yesterday (really amazing).. but it would be much more impressive if someone post a realistic usage for this great feature..

that's just a little example..

once Caligari has an !!amazing!! software, it could care a little bit about with what visitors are gonna see..

I did choose this because I searched hard for top-level stuff and because I know that the amazing caustics are much more useful than for logo design..

think about it ;)

cheers
