An open question to the entire TS Community.

Actually, 2 questions.

Is it possible to install TS onto a key fob so I can take it to school? I'm looking to get either version 5, or maybe 6.

If it is possible, is there anything in the EULA that would forbid doing so. (Since it would only be used by myself, on a single system at any given time).

Thanks in advance.

There was a question a few years ago related to installing tS on multiple machines to do network rendering and they said that was ok. So it think you're fine. I'm pretty sure that there are at least a few people on the forum that have a copy of tS installed at work and at home. If I remember right thier main concern was the number of users, that it be one user per licence, but that you could install tS as many different computers as you needed for you own personal use as long as you were the only one using that copy of tS.

Hopefully someone with Caligari will correct me if I don't have it quite right. ;)

I was told by TomG that I was able to install tS7 on both a home PC and a laptop as long as no-one was using both copies simultaneously. In other words only the registered user can use it...and you can't be in two places at once...;)

Of course, 'network' rendering would be out if both versions were required to be running.

This is not an 'official line' (not until I own Caligari  ) but it's the best I can do.

I think it was tS7...might have been tS6.6 but it should be the same either way.

Just a note to say that if tSNet is used, the license does cover running sufficient number of instances of trueSpace up to the number of nodes purchased, for rendering purposes. I don't have anything to add regarding the original license of trueSpace, and the best way to proceed would probably be to contact Caligari directly and explain the circumstances in detail.

Technically, the license can only be installed on one machine at a time, so technically you should uninstall it on one machine, and then install it on the other.

Naturally, this would be very inconvenient to do while moving from laptop to desktop on a daily basis, so we will not hunt you down and prosecute if you happen to install it on both your laptop and desktop, so long as only one version is active at any one time. So you are at work, using the laptop, then go home, use the desktop, all is fine - only one user is using only one license at once.

If however you work on the laptop while someone else fires up your desktop, and this is on a daily basis, then you are breaking the agreement as you are allowing two people to use the same single license at the same time. If you run both desktop and laptop then you are still using the same license more than once, so again a breach of the license.

The exception as noted is tSNet - if you have a 3 node license of tSNet, then you are covered for running tS on 3 machines, BUT solely for the purpose of network rendering. The tSNet license does not let you run those three installations as three modelers for example, either for you or for multiple people.

This means the situation of having it on a keyfob and taking your installed copy with you from machine to machine and running it from that keyfob would be fine. One license, one user at once. The machine changes each time you run it as you move around, but that's not a problem!

Now I can't answer if there are any technical limitations to that though :( Not sure if all would work as normal, since the machine running it wouldn't have items in the registry for tS (eg tS file types for one). Maybe someone can add more to that?

Of course, do not leave tS or any part of it installed on a machine when you are done and walk away :) Other than that, I don't see a problem with what you suggest, so long as the "one license per one user at a time" continues to be followed.

HTH!
