I couldn't go into this month's MMC because I just have not had time.
I was supposed to be doing some work at home today, and will now be WAY behind, but I just couldn't help doing a quick image (10 hours ;) )
Which of these would show the loss of after Christmas best?
Pic 1 - straight from TS

OR - after a bit of messing around with GIMP

Tell me what ya all think PLEASE!!! |

Kena... the only difference that I can see is with the texturing on the walls. Is that the only difference? If so, I prefer the one BEFORE messing around with GIMP. Not that I don't like GIMP, I use it as well. It is just that I don't think it adds anything to the story you are trying to tell. Unless you want the wall to look like bubbling wall paper, then you nailed it :D |

That is one really big glass Christmas ball you have there. Seems oversized to me. |

Thanks for the comments. The bubbling wallpaper is supposed to help show that the house is empty and abandoned now that the holiday is over. And yes, the xmas ball is supposed to be approximately a quarter foot in diameter(4 in). One of those over-sized balls that people thought would be neat to have about 4 years ago. Until they discovered how tacky they actually are. :D |

Shouldn't the tree be bare? |

I don't see why. I live in Florida, and when I look out the window, MY Oak tree isn't bare. :D |

I'm sorry to hear that.
I guess not everybody is lucky enough to live where there's more than two seasons. What are they called again..? 'Tourist' and 'Steamy Oven'?
The bubbly wallpaper indicates more neglect, or at least a lot higher humidity.
I second the motion about the oversize ornament- it may be 'correct', but it looks wrong somehow. |

I personally live in VA, so there are almost no leaves around here! As for your final image, go with the original. The other pic after GIMP just looks a lot more unrealistic. The ornament does not look right, but it is right. Strange, but true. Great job, though! |

lol - I get 4 seasons, but they are milder than yours are. Most people who have not lived her long or who have just visited or heard about it think it's just two seasons. It's 37 degrees outside right now. Tomorrow should get into the 70's though, so I only have to stand the extra cold for a little bit.
And this is more what you would expect?

Or would this be more north-moody?

Your floor is too clean :) Just a suggestion, add some dropped/dead pine needles. I think that would drive it home. |

I'm sure the color is just a placeholder but just in case, they look a little too green to me but I think that is a good start. Might have to change the floor color to be able to see the needles (if you choose to darken them). |

KenA,
For some reason, I pictured you living in Ireland !
As far as wanting suggestions, I'd fix the window frame to be more parallel to the wall corner. Then I'd change the floor....but that's just me;). |

Actually, when they were dark enough, you could not see them against the floor. I will have to experiment with lightning the floor, but I wanted it dark to help set the mood.

The window frame is parallel to the wall corner. The focal length of my camera causes the forced perspective. It was intentional.

Why would you intentionally make the window frame look deformed ? The right window jam is not perpendicular to the window sill.....and is not parallel to the wall from this view. You would never see this perspective in a normal situation. |
