I thought Truespace7.5-7.51 came with Vray? how come we have to buy it for another $300? when I bought 6.6 it came with Vray without charging me more money..

someone correct me if im wrong, currently im not using Truespace much, how could I tell if its in 7.51 if Vray supposed to be in it..

I think you mean lightworks not vray, that still comes at no extra charge..vray is another rendering engine you can buy as an add on

Hmmm,

I'm definitely curious what you received with trueSpace 6.6 (other than the regular LightWorks renderer, now the longtime standard for trueSpace going back several versions). Perhaps VirtuaLight, a plugin that, with VirtuaOut, has been available for a couple of tS releases now? As VRay was first offered with 7.0, and indeed, even in 7.51, still works only through the new WorkSpace side of the program. VRay for trueSpace has been an extra cost item from the start, (LightWorks and now VirtuaLight are included in the base cost of 7.n). ChaosGroup is the developer of VRay, Caligari just licenses it (and builds the trueSpace interface for it), and must pay ChaosGroup to resell it. Note: PlugInz.com currently has VRay for 3DMax at 'only' $759 (no, 3DMax is not included, that's just the price of VRay -).

V-Ray is only available for trueSpace7 and above (as it relies on the new architecture which allows the seamless embedding of extra render engines into the software).

Here are the relevant engines:

1. Lightworks

trueSpace6.6 featured Lightworks as the native built in renderer. Lightworks remains in trueSpace7 and up as the "free" render engine that is in the software without additional purchase. Lightworks in trueSpace7 and above features HDRI, not found in trueSpace6.6.

Lightworks has been the render engine in tS since tS4. tS3 and earlier used a different engine.

2. Virtualight

Virtualight was available for trueSpace6.6, and you could get it free, thanks to Simon Windmill's work on a plugin that gave you the interface to export to Virtualight and start it rendering. This added in Global Illumination and Caustics. It is included in tS7 and above too, so you have access to those sort of rendering features without purchasing V-Ray (however, V-Ray is faster, easier to work with, better quality, more closely integrated with tS7, and so on).

3. V-Ray

Optional for tS7, and only for tS7 and above (architecture of previous tS did not allow direct integration of alternative render engines).

That covers the three engines you can get in tS7 and above, two built-in and included (Lightworks, Virtualight) and one optional (V-Ray).

HTH!
