If you are using poly modelling, make the ear separately and ideally model half a head. Then (without the two objects touching) boolean union the head and ear together then draw edges in manually to complete the mesh. Turn mirror modelling on to make things easier.

If you actually want to know how to model the ear then there may be some tutorials around but I generally make more cartoon like ears i.e. not much detail so I can't really help...:o

An often time over looked resource is YouTube, I like going over there and see what people are making for my favorite software packages. This particular tutorial is not the best example I have seen, but it is using tools that are in TS so it may be a good place for you to start.

Good Luck

Mr Steinie (the other guy from Jersy :D) posted a pretty good one...

Another approach is to place a straight on photo of an ear and put it on a plane then model the ear using the image as a guide.

Simplest way to this approach would be to start as a plane, use the polydraw tool to mark out the outline of the ear, then delete the rest of the plane leaving only the flat ear shape. You can then use the polydraw tool to iteratively add the interior geometry. Drag the verts around to create the depth.

Hope that helps! :)

Try nowherebrains tutorials (http://www.scatteredpixel.com/files/Page1.html)

There's one that covers the whole head and shows how to do an ear really well, though youmay need to watch it a few times. They're very cheap too, about $5

Hi All

Thanks for all responses but still having a bit of trouble. First of all when i place an image on a plane then use polydraw well after the third point all the image gets distorted so i couldnt use that. Had a look on youtube and through a lot of practice decide to have a go at it and it turned out sort of ok. Thanks again for the replies.

Set up your ear image on a separate plane and layer and then lock the layer.
This way you can use it to trace the shape on a second plane and the texture won't distort.
Here are a couple of discussions about doing this:
