Hi there,

I'm getting my ducks lined up for some future projects, and curious as to whether anyone here is working with SketchUp. I really like SU, and TS has really good lighting capabilities, so I'd like to use both of them together. I do mostly theatrical design, so accurate dimensions are very important.

Thanks.

Can only talk in general as I dont use Sketchup so not sure what export formats it offers.

The best format for importing from another package at present is OBJ, as it preserves UV mapping information and texturing. Next up would be X format. You could then also try 3ds. X format and 3ds are less likely to carry across the texturing, so you may have to repaint things once you get into tS.

Hope this proves useful! Let us know how you get on.

Thanks for the info. That's what I was figuring on trying out. I also checked out the Similar Threads links and found out about the LUUV plugin, which sounds good... although right now I don't have a clue what it is.

Sketchup can export a number of formats, including obj (and dxf, Carrara and a some others), so you should potentially be able to use it in collaboration with TS - but I confess I've no actually experience of trying beyond exporting a simple obj fom SU into TS (using Luuv plug-in). NB this is with TS5.1 I hasten to add, but would imagine same thing is possible in newer releases.
