For my Dali-esk attempt, I'm going to try to invoke the absurd in Man's attempt at genetic manipulation.
Hey, If Dali could do an abstract on the A-Bomb, I can do one on Genetics. :D
To start out with, I have made a background picture using Vue 6. Just a look at the clouds, but at least it's a start.

And for now, this is the background for my little slice of the strange. It could change in the future.

Kena, given what I have seen you produce....and what you have shown so far, there is no doubt in my mind it is going to be strange enough :D |

Well...one can hope.
Now what I need is a pattern of cracks. But they need to be large cracks
so I got this off the Internet

and used it to make this.

You prefer your Eggs and Butterflies with bacon.... Each to his own.

And what statement of genitics would do without some kind of abstract string of DNA

And after a bit of trying to figure out why my image kept coming out totally black, I have finished the wings.

Happy New Year Everyone!
It's almost bed time for me, but after the party on TV (I don't do more than that these days), I worked a bit more on my egg.

Tahnoak that means you are on the right track. Heck my wife don't get this program. I tell her it is just a hobby. So if she don't get your art..that is good..especailly this topic. |

OK - part of my WIP process is getting advice from other people, and we've gotten to that point here.
Do I have enough buildings here, or do I need more?

More. If that is to be a city, then you need more. |

Also is the "green" supposed to be grass or goo? Either way it seems to me there is some texture strecthing at the bottom. |

no, Its not "grass" it's "impressionistic". It's only supposed to give the "idea" of ground without actually being anything specific. The picture is actually rock moss. But by applying a plainer UV, I managed to get it to look disturbing.
OK - Will add more buildings. I think I need to have some going out of the scene to give the impression of there being "more than the picture". |

Hmmmm....what's green like grass but isn't really grass at all? Is it pot? Are your houses swimming in a sea of mary-jane? ;) |

I like the melt effect and the vibrant colors you seem to be projecting for the future of the scene ! It seems to fall right in with this topic ! |

Yeah, the melting effect was what I was going for, but I had to make sure to focus on the edge of the deformed plane in order to see it. Part of the set-up I have found is in trying different angles until you get just the look you are going for. I'm finding that positioning the buildings just right is more difficult than you would think. How many to have angled toward the camera? How many away? Do I use an even number to reflect Man, or an odd number to reflect nature.... Lots of little decisions that come together in the end and are not seen by the casual observer, yet are necessary to the "mood" of the piece. |

lol - with this style of "painting" you gotta really think of all the little details or you could miss out on the overall effect. If you pay attention to Dali or any of the impressionists you will be able to decode their message but it takes a twist of the mind to do it.
OK... now I've gotten the buildings. Not quite a city but if I did a city, I would have to have hundreds of buildings. I also decided to lighten the sky a bit.

Good idea using the real cracks to make the egg cracks. You could just draw some but they wouldn't look as good. |

Yes. After about 20 test renders and re-adjusting the buildings I finally went back to my original setup and tried lightning up the ground.... then darkening the ground. Then hit the inspiration that the SKY looked like the clouds were in the morning and the blue was in the late evening. So I lightened up the ambient on the texture and lo and behold! It now looks like a sky. |

Kena, this is starting to make me worry that maybe I am out in left field somewhere with mine. Mine is not nearly as thought provoking. Hmmmmm. Great job, by the way. |

It's OK... Everyone has a different "style" to their projects. Mine changes according to what I'm doing. Since we are supposed to "follow the artist" and create something that Dali would like, I tend to think about the elements more. Other people will go a different route and that's no problem. |

Wow! Great work Kena, although trying to make sense of all the imagery your showing us is doing my head in - which is a good sign considering the topic.:D It is also very interesting to hear your thought process as you go about making your creative decisions and thus an excellent example of how a WIP should be. I also find it quite remarkable how you manage to completely change your style, probably more than any other artist on the forum. For example, if you placed your Stonehenge and Fairy Village next to this you would think they had been done by 3 separate people. Keep up the good work. |

@ finis - yeah.. I thought of making cracks myself, but I wanted something that didn't look like a person drew it. ;)
@ Breach - I like to vary my style. and I guess that is my style. ;)
Don't worry about it doing your head in though... It's doing mine in too. Wait until you see what I do with the egg! |
