As some of you may remember, I have dabbled a bit with pyrocluster.
I have a short volume-effect animation in the making, but here is a render that I found interesting in more than one way. |

I have yet to learn about good codec settings.

This shows a neat effect inside a box. Nothing fancy except for the effects.
Edit: O yea, I did use tS 7.6 model side with LightWorks. |

That's a great effect, similar to a hologram. :)
I'll have to get my hands on pyrocluster one day......somehow. |

Looks great! I've always loved particle effects, I guess in the same way I've always loved fractals, it is just interesting and appealing to the human eye / brain to see such things (or it is to my brain anyway!).
For codecs, I always like to use WMV. I use Windows Media Video 9, Quality VBR, frame rate 15 fps, Video Quality 90 though can go down to 80 if file size is an issue, key frame interval of 5, decoder complexity of Auto (with Windows Media Audio 9.2, Quality CBR, Audio bit rate of 32.05 Kbps).
I use this to produce the Bitesize videos, and it seems to work well. Gives good enough quality and small enough file sizes, and plays back without problems. Been using those settings for about a year or so now as our current standard.
Of course may vary when it comes to high detailed animations like your one, since we are usually doing screen grabs and teaching in those videos, but it might give a good starting point if you are still looking to play with codecs and settings.
HTH!

It is a very interesting effect! Love the combination of refraction with particles! |

Thank you.
Tom, I'll try those settings and see. I have not yet bought any good video editing package.
I prefer sharp, flawless picture quality over small file sizes.. |

Never tried pushing the envelope on quality, WMV may work well at 100% for that, not sure. DivX can give good results for AVI format, but those don't stream, but it may allow you to squeeze out greater quality for that sacrifice (plus the sacrifice of larger files). Let us know your results, would be interesting to see what you find out!
Thanks!

This is a composite image, showing wireframe and rendered effect, and plugin panel, for those of you who wonder what Pyrocluster is..

My copy of the plugin is from one of the plugin collection pak CD's that Caligari sold. If there are more copies of those pak CD's lying around unused, what's to hinder them from being sold.. |
