Well as the topic says, which of these two apps is best suited for game design?

I have trouble with finding good tutorials for truespace, can someone point out some? I know that there is video tutorials, but I'm looking for something like blenders N00B to Pro tutorial.

Thanks in advance

There is no best. It depends of if you are lucky with the handling and lucky with the features.

All i can say is that i try to find my way into the Blender since years. Without sucess. I miss a human UI in Blender. The just hotkey UI with its hundrets of keys is simply not made for me ;)

Here is the recommended course list

http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=4558&highlight=tutorials&page=2

you can also visit the tutorium and get some tips and tricks.

Blender has it's good points and bad points. So does Truespace. I find TrueSpace much easier to use. Obviously, since I'm here in the forums. ;)

ask at the blender forums, and they will tell you blender is better/easier to use.

But, hey! TS is free, so go ahead and download it - run through the courses - then request in the tutorium if there is still something you cannot figure out.

It depends what kind of Game... Blender and TrueSpace are about equally powerfull for creating 2D sprites, however TrueSpace's Lightworks rendering engine has the advantage of rendering to PSD layers which makes background removal very quick, easy and accurate.

When it comes to 3D objects I would go for TrueSpace.

The biggest problem with Blender at the moment is its exporting capabilities, it has an X file export but as soon as you try to export something more complex than a cube it fails to do so successfully, in fact I had exporting troubles with most of its formats and I wasn't even trying to export animation yet!

So unless you're willing to write your own exporter I would go for TrueSpace.

I started playing around with Blender when TrueSpace was still a commercial product and I abandoned it since I couldn't get the objects out of the program. So I then bought TrueSpace instead.

P.S. Blender does have a few formats that work but as far as I know they're all for static objects and even those have some quirks.

Thanks for the answers!

I think I'm going to test truespace to see if it's what I'm looking for, thanks for the link kena.

I don't know how much time you have but I think it's worth exploring both. I use Blender, Truespace 7.6, and Carrara 5 Pro although I admittedly use tS 7.6 more than the other two. I like the interface, it gives me a warm and fuzzy when modeling and is very easy on the eyes, and I paid 300 bucks for 7.5 during the January sale so I was gonna spend some time on it and learn it. Now that it's free, I still spend most of my time there because it is so familiar to me and the collaboration benefits are freaking outstanding!

I am interested in game creation... but so far both programs prove too complex for the task.

Maybe i am not cut out for it.

Every journey, long or short, begins with a small step.

most things to do with computers are complecated at first, hang in there and you'll get your head around it.

You might just need to get more familiar with the programs. Have you tried the downloadable courses from caligari? they won't cost you anything and they'll help you get to know truespace better.

Making a game is a big task, have you thought of asking people to help you with it, maybe make some of the background models of some of the coding?
