Are you able to insert a background photograph and project shadows from objects on to a polygon? I have been looking at Christian Bloch's free sIBL flow that is used to insert prepared photographic images from an HDR 360 panoramic. There are different images for background, reflection, lighting, etc. They have working solutions for lightwave, maya, etc.

I have registered my copy of truespace 7.6 and I am a newbie to 3D applications. Would it be beneficial to buy one of the earlier truespace books? I am trying to get going and I have noticed that some general books gave good advice that would be transferable to any 3D rendering program. I have been shooting 360 panoramics for a while and I am trying to shoot people and integrate 360 panoramic backgrounds, the people and 3D objects that I model and texture in Truespace. Thank you for any guidance.

The panoviewer tool found in "The Garage" section of forums will display spherical panoramics, with modified camera hooked up to this tool you can take none spherical panoramics and adjust the view to make those also view right. This is all done in real time on the WorkSpace side.

Other option is using HDRI and showing background, this to will show the panoramic and can also be used to replicate or simulate the light from the actual image you captured from your camera for your objects. This really helps blend in the 3d objects with the background image since the lighting from the image is used. In this case you don't see the image until you render using lightworks in modeler side or VRay in Workspace or Modeler side, now the HDRI course shows how you can have the HDRI background displayed while setting up your scene.

In terms of the use of the early books....I have Inside trueSpace 4, but I would not recommend it now as somebody starting afresh with ts7.6. My trueSpace abilities increased dramatically once I joined the Proteam and got access to all the video courses. These courses are now accessible free to everyone and unless you have a complete phobia of videos it is a very good way to move forward relatively quickly. Note also that there are videos embedded within the PDF manual that comes with ts7.6.

Noko,

Thank you for your reply and link to the thread discussing this 360 panorama tool for equirectangular / spherical images. I am logged in now. I am also downloading the HDRI video tutorials.
