Ok, I just downloaded TrueSpace after seeing it was free, and have a few questions:

1. Where do I download the manual in .PDF format?

2. Does anyone know some good tutorials which teach you about the UI?(I come from using open source programs like Wings and Blender.)

3. Is there an easier way to pan rather than using the widget?

4. How do I import and export?

Thanks, help is appreciated!

Welcome to using tS!

1. Same place as the original program download. Log back in and you'll find the PDF manual as a download there. Be sure to also download the videos, they are separate due to the size of the download, but well worth it.

2. I suggest the Organics course on our training pages (http://www.caligari.com/products/trueSpace/ts5/Courses/WorkspaceOrganicModeling1.asp?Cate=Training&Subcate=Fundamental ). Other, older courses exist if you want to learn the legacy Model side, but for the newer Model side I suggest starting there. Also in the bitesize videos: http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=6193

And the manual videos too of course.

3. I always use the widget and rather like it, so not sure! You can use the Camera Rotate controls though if you prefer then you just click in the scene and drag to rotate - but it won't spin around the selected object like the widget does.

4. Depends on which format. The File menu on both the workspace side and the Model side is where you would import. Model side will give you the broadest access for now to more formats. There's also the LUUV plugin on the Model side which is currently the recomended solution for importing OBJs (though a better, workspace based plug-in is in development by a third party)

Well, ya' see, I didn't want to give out all that information to download something so I downloaded from another site. Is there any other site to download the manual?

Ok, I'll look through them.

Do you know if there's a way to customize controls? I found out how to pan easily in workspace, but not model.

So, can I import/export .3ds files in the file menu?

Thanks for your help.

Nevermind, just tried Bugmenot for a user and found one. I'll download the manual now.

I had multiple sites open that hosted the installer, I think I ended up downloading it from a site called "Brothersoft". But I used Bugmenot to download it so now I have it of the main site.

Ok, I just finished the first tutorial in the manual(The odd looking spaceship.) and was wondering, is there a free built-in renderer?

Ok, now how do I extrude along a single axis, and also get to different views(side, top, front.) and can I configure my keyboard? If so, how? And also, can I import a .x/.obj/.3ds file into workspace?

1. There are three built in renderers - the workspace has the real-time renderer, that lets you save to file, both stills and animations (as image sequences). Very fast, and what you see in workspace is what you get on disk (minus toolbars and 3D widgets, that is).

The Model side has Lightworks and Virtualight, offering such things as HDRI, GI, etc, that you can't get from real-time rendering. With the Bridge set to On or Auto, and using non-DX shaders, your workspace creations will also be accessible on the Model side to render using those engines.

2. Not sure what you mean about along a single axis. Generally, use the 3D widget and use the relevant part to move in only one axis. Use the global settings to specify whether that is World or Object axes you are using. See the widget info in the manual for more.

You can also use the global settings to disable certain axes, leaving only the one you want.

3. Different views, see manual - on the toolbar, there are icons to choose between top, bottom, camera, perspective, etc. They are pretty easy to find, a manual search will uncover screen grabs etc.

4. Yes - see manual on setting hotkeys. You hold CTRL and right click if I remember rightly.

5. Yes, load it in the Model side using LUUV for OBJ, or the File menu for the Model side for X and 3DS (and an alternative OBJ to try if the LUUV import has problems). With the Bridge set to On or Auto, the loaded objects will also be moved to the workspace.
