Is this mentioned in the developer guide? I have not looked into it too much. Could you provide some additional information?

Look in the Activities - My Activities library for Scene Deformer object.
Sorry I can not explain exactly what it is. Compare it to Timer Event which runs constantly where as Watch Dog Event only runs with changes to object.
Where as less CPU usage.

Watch dog can be translated as: Wachhund, ja tatsächlich, der aktiv wird sobald ein Event eintritt. Vergleichbares gibt es z.B. in der Prozessrechentechnik. Sobald da irgendein Wert z.B. an einem Meßfühler auftritt , wird ein sogenannter Handler gestartet, der das Ding abarbeitet. Dieser Handler, ein stinknormales Programm, sollte auch eine Prioritätsregel beinhalten, also wann darf er wielange aktiv sein.
