Hi folks,

a while back trueBlue and Asem whipped up a script which had a distance trigger hooked up to a scene loader for use inside FPN mode.

Since I recognized huge potential in that script I just enhanced it and altered it to use the Usage method instead of proximity triggering and made a new panel for it which is very newbie friendly.

Needless to say to you guys I suppose, you can easily use this to connect offline scenes together and build offline virtual worlds which can be further enhanced with the wscript.shell scripts to load anything or run anything you want inside each scene or connect you to specific shared spaces.

Here's a screenshot and the very small RsObj file follows it.

Thanks Norm.

Yeah, I think all this stuff has pretty big potential very soon. Once Caligari rolls out the Personal Shared Spaces which have been discussed a few times here in the forums over the last year lots of folks will be connecting their home computers to these new portals and using them quite a bit to socialize and collaborate online.

When they do they will most likely be doing it so often that they will eventually revisit these tools and methods in order to make their own immersive 3D desktop "worlds" of interconnected scenes to develop offline and to walk through in FPN mode, listening to music, searching the web from inside them, connecting to these new online portals from inside them by clicking scripted scene objects, or running local programs.

I think that more and more it will eventually become a common and natural extension of our online shared space experiences. Just a matter of time.

The real magnet to getting a lot of folks involved in doing this though will come when we conquer the use of Direct3D ActiveX object access and manipulation (OLE Automation) through modular trueSpace scripting as discussed briefly in the following recent post: http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=54086&postcount=27 (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showpost.php?p=54086&postcount=27)

Then we will be able to have video and animations inside our scenes along with us rather than having them run in external programs we call from script. That will be a big day when it arrives, and I'm working now on making that day come as soon as possible for all of us.
