I thought I would go for something a little amusing this time around.
Begin. Blank Stage. You won't see most of the door at the end, but I like the clean look of it.

And now a shiny new floor. Messing with the subdv kinda makes it look newly waxed.

Thanks Jay
Actually, the plinth is just a place holder for a cube-table I will be putting there. I just needed something there so I would know how composition/reflections would work.
Sort of like the molding. I had some there as a placeholder, and made it smaller for the last image. That way it looks like it belongs. |

Nice job so far, Kena. Love the look of the floor. Only crit would be the height of the skirting board needs to be raised. Looking forward to seeing where you're going with this. |

Skirting board? oh... I didn't use a skirting board... just quarter round. ;) I suppose I could put in a skirting board instead..... Will look into it.
so... which wall looks better? the one on the left or right (with the door in it)?

How about base board, base cap, and shoe mold for an option ?
I think your wall on the right (with the door) looks more realistic and more compatible with the floor....the wall on the left looks more like a dimensional portal:) (foggy). |

Agree - prefer the walll on the right.
Also agree with Breech - don't like the 'half-round' profile you've used, seems very weird to me but perhaps that's more common outside the UK; here we tend to go for a proper skirting board as Breech mentions, albeit the type/height varies. For a moderately traditional door like you've shown, I'd expect a moderate to deep skirting, possibly with some detail; a more modern/plain door might have a plain, small (10cm/4") skirting like in my house...
Especially as you've got quite a substantial architrave round the door frame.
Like the floor though, and the detail on the door, although the brass colour doesn't look quite right yet. Curoisu as to where you're going with the centre-piece too... |

The wrist of the door seems too low. Good for a dwarf  |

I was thinking the same thing with the wall, so had that ready... How about this skirting board?

Most of the door, including the handle will not even be seen in the final image. The final will be close-up to the center table. I just like having a bit of stuff out of the picture and I can always use the object in another project later on. :D |

"How about this skirting board?" :Yes it is better.
I think it will be better with nothing at the intersection of the walls. |

no... I tried that and it looks like someone tried to model blank intersections of a wall. ;)

Hey Kena..got a good suggestoin for ya. Since like me you live in the states go to your local lumber yard and see if they sell ECMD molding. If so ask for a sample booklet. What it is, is their complete line of baseboard and molding and they have it drawn from a side profile. This way you can load up the draw panel then sweep it. |

I think Marcel meant where the two walls meet. The baseboard was ok. |

Agreed; in the UK at least, we don't tend to have moulding up the wall at the corner - not in a classy house at least! Sometimes seen with cheap panellised wall cladding (e.g. fake tile effect boarding) but not common otherwise - but that's the UK, can't speak for other countries... |

And for perfectionists, each square have 4 larges pieces of wood and 1 thin piece. The 5 pieces must have the same size. ;) |

Well here in the US we don't have any type of molding where the walls meet unlsess it is wood. If it is drywall then there is none. |

There is an ample amount of wood here in the U.S. to make those corner pieces. :)
You do see them on less expensive homes and house trailers - mainly to keep the cheap wall covering from peeling off. :) |

rjeff - I may look into moldings. won't need them for this pic, but I already have a library of about 7 of them just in case I need them for the top of a wall or a picture frame. ;)
Ah... thanks for clarifying Steinie and marcel.
It's probably the same way in the states Nez. I sometime over-do on things I've seen in friends houses.
You never know James - I've lived in so many places that I've seen everything from mantions to 1 bedroom trailers.
Thanks for the link Finis
and this should do it for the walls?

And now the cheap furniture reveled!! or reviled.
18029
And this will be the final angle... I know... I did a lot of prep to get such a close-up, but I feel it is necessary to get just the right look for this one.

Thanks for the links Marcel. I will check them out.
Update after my failed attempt to help in TNL last night.
We are going to model some Oragami....
Here is how we start.
4 cubes rotated as shown
18070
Union them together and you get a nice strange shape.
18071
stay tuned to this channel for more updates. |

OK... take that shape and make more from it...
Two different ways to close off those open edges....
18081
So, that gave us two origami shapes.... Take this one and flatten the sharp corners to get more of a ball shape.
18082
Stay tuned to see what I do with THAT one |

wow... that didn't take nearly as long as I thought it would. I could keep going on and on and on and on, but I think if I do too many more, it won't fit in my scene.
Next step is to color them. That will take a couple of hours I think.

It's always hardest to put things in a satisfying pattern. Here I have to leave a bit of room for Igor's ACTUAL dilemma, but other than that - what do you all think? rendering looking good? too much light - too little?

Well with the basket weave pattern on the plastic flooring, the formica table cube and the use of a neon palette on Igor's puzzles one word comes to mind...gaudy.
Does Igor have to be hosed down occasionally?:D
Now there might be a need for a plastic room, I just don't know where your headed with this yet.
The object on the right has a color palette not being shown on the others.
Overall lighting isn't bad but I would still try to get some shadows working within the objects.
In the final I would use a DOF for the main object in your render.
I have a feeling some of these are not staying together. Is this for an animation?
You've got my interest in this one. Keep it up. |

lol Steinie. The floor isn't plastic. It's Vinyl. Since I had the cheap cubes as a table, I needed a cheap floor. The objects aren't puzzles, they are Unit Origami. I have actually folded each shape you see there.
The object on the right has a color palette not being shown on the others.
good eye! I colored that one first and changed the colors for the next one, and didn't remember to recolor it. Fixed now.

can you use DOF in V-ray? I've never looked into that one.
I have a feeling some of these are not staying together. Is this for an animation?

No, no animation. I've only had one spell of failed animation and I am sticking with still images for now.
The actual dilemma is on a book ;) |
