but anyway, sinse he was doing the flyer with the canvas on it I thought I would do it in it's frame form. Anyways I am almost finished it, just need to do the engine and exaust. the props need to be fixed too.

This looks VERY GOOD tatts !!!
How about using this WIP and entering it in this month's MMC ?
Even your Bluenose would qualify, considering its history as a great moment in time for Nova Scotia !

Hi Jamesmc, I'm sorry to hear that. I hope you are resting well and get better from your misfortune.

after reading mr3d`s reply, the MMC in your titles had just clicked to me and did'nt reallize MMC was a contest. I never visted that forum. I started thinking at first that my comment turned you off your project.

sinse everyone was talking about old stuff it prompt me to do old stuff that I had wanted to do but never did.

I never intended to enter a contest myself, nor did I know this was the theme for the month. But if you'se think I should then maybe I will. When is the deadline?

Hi guys, I am sorry but I will have to back out of this month's contest. The past couple days we have had nothing but a crappy connection to the net and finally got fed up enough that we had called and cancelled our internet service and were going to return their garbage to them tommorow.

to tell you how bad my connection is, I have to write this in notepad and save it so that when i post it, hopefully my net will stay on long enough for this message to get through. Again I am sorry i can't participate, I hope to be back up and running with a better provider in the next couple weeks. In the time that I wrote this very small message my IP went on and off 3 times.

Maybe there could be a one month extension to allow time for more people to come on board and so that you could come back to it later tatts?

Yesturday was just not my day, but then later on in the evening it was, then it turned bad again so I gave up, turned the pc off and went to bed.

Yesturday after having things go wrong for me all day long with the internet, We had finaly decided to call and cancel it, which we did and we will be returning the modem and stuff today. But then last night things started turning around real fast after the wife go home from work.

Around 7:30 last night we got our new connection to the net. We hooked up to a portable internet so there was absolutely no wait. :) have had a solid connection so far.

Anyway last night I was going to come back on and let you'se know that I got my connection after all and that I can keep going with my project. But then the worst happened and I became very bummed out about it.

I thought I would work on the flyer for a bit and just make my post with an update to the plane... So I opened truespace and at the time my bluenose was loaded cause I have deleted a few things on it earlier in the day, So i figured I'd save my progress and get started back on the flyer,,, I did save alright.....over my flyer. So everything thing that I have done on it is gone. :( I still have the engine but I can't use it, it is saved as an X file from a test and I can't get it back into truespace :(

So I am going to restart it from scratch, Only this time im going to be changing alot on how I go about building it. The last flyer I made a big mistake.. It was the frist time I've ever used the encapsolate in 3d tool, so when I was building the last flyer, I was encapsulating every thing as I went on. I havent done any UV mapping or any named any groups so you can imagine how ugly it was by the time I completely figured out how to PROPERLY use the encap in 3d tool. :D I also realize that i have absolute no idea how to use the materials to get the effects that you guys do, not to mention I know nothing about lightworks. Maybe these comps are'nt for me just yet. But anyway I am going to restart the plain and just do the best I can with it. :)

I am just glad to finally have a solid connection to the net and I did'nt have to wait after all. :)

If you use the workspace libraries, and you use Replace, the old scene is moved to the Recycle Bin and can be restored from there!

If you use the File menu and Save As then of course the original file is indeed overwritten. One of the pluses to using the workspace libraries though, no scene is ever accidentally overwritten and irretrievable (assuming you dont empty the recycle bin before you notice what you did, of course). Hoping this might help you restore the scene.

Also, when working on a large project, I never save to just one file. Every so often I always start a new file and leave the old one, so that if I need to go back a step due to messing up the model, a file gets corrupted, I delete something by accident, etc, then I always have some part of the project saved and only end up redoing recent stuff and not everything from the start.

HTH!

Also useful is to save each project in a seperate project file so you can restore the workspace and icon layouts when you switch between the projects.

No unfortunately I actually saved over it, so there is no restoring it. Every project I do, I normally do save to multiple files. for some reason I never did that with this file, I did for the bluenose and other projects but not this one. :(

In a sense I guess it is a good thing sinse there was infact alot that i wanted to change on the flyer itself. I'm just really bummed about the engine, That took me a little while to do.

Well i did however already start over and so far have built the main wings. They look much better than the last ones. will have pics to show a little later, just going to keep working on it and get back to where I was :)

WOW!!! Lots of detail in there tatts, you are basically reconstructing the whole thing from the inside out! Nice :) I love details...

But if you are going to cover it up with the outside surface, its all going to be hidden from sight, unless you will do kind of schematic collage showing the different parts, otherwise all that effort will be waisted, even though it is awesome and a lot of fun to do :)

very nice :)

HI theuns, thanks for the compliments. I can't wait to show the flyer in it's state now. I've worked on it all night last night till 7 am this morning. I have changed a lot about how I modeled this one too ( much cleaner than the last). I saved like crazy and in a couple different files, plus I have bee adding my parts to the library for extra back up. :) I'll be damned to loose this one.

Anyway, what my plans were for this was to make two flyers. One of course to show the frame of it. and the other will be canvased. after their done I was going to try and make a nice collag from it. So far everything seems to be going pretty good. I am almost done the frame flyer itself. that will most likely be done tonight or tommorow, it really depends how drawn in I get with the rest and how much detail I decide to add. The new flyer I have been building it to match the real life flyer and not the model plans that I have been working from origanaly. I hope to have some new pics on here tommorow. Today im just going to keep at it and hopefully finish the flyer so I can get started back on the engine.

I have also been adding the textures and uv mapping as I go. this way i am not stuck trying to do it all in the end. One of the mistakes i made with the first one.

I thought i'd share another pic. Getting close to finishing the flyers, just need to start creating a back ground soon. Also managed to save my engine after all. the x importer on the model side worked just fine.
