Just a quick question
anyone know anything about the way in which people
can be banned from worlds using the computer ID function ?
does every PC have a unique ID and if so how can AW
read this, iv'e only heard of this being done in AW
but it sounds like it would be a usefull feature for
things like forums etc.

In one of my 2D chats they ban by computer ID also. Works great unless the
*pesky critter* can access more than one computer ... may take awhile to
track em all down LOL.

Computer ID is helpful with some computers and not others.
Not all computers, expecially older ones and some newer ones, have that
function, or have it enabled.
Banning by citizen number and/or IP and/or Name (with a bot) is still the
best ways to maintain a ban on someone.
The Computer ID is not helpful and universal enough in most cases to be of
much help, except on specific ejections.

Well if you have a world that doesn't allow tourists, banning by
citnum's pretty well got it covered.

Banning by computer ID cannot be taken any futher as you would need an
option to not send this information to the server, just like MS has to
include a 'send unique ID' in its Media Player.

The computer identifier is the whole MAC address for the computers network
adapter. This basicly means no matter how they change there IP or what ISP
they use the mac address is the same. The mac address is unique to the
adapter its self. So the main way to get around it is to change the adapter
in your computer, but who would do that just to get in a chat room?

I think it's more than just the MAC address.
I think it's a combination of the MAC address and at least the serial number
of your CPU, and probably mangled together with the windows serial
number you used to install everything.
Changing any of those will probably change your UniqueID.
