I'm looking hard now at developing a new script which involves applying physics within a small area of a scene for a short temporary period, activated and deactivated via proximity sensor.

As we all know, I think, starting Physics online causes every point or face in the entire online scene (including those of moving avatar parts) to be precalculated in relation to their role in the physics engine, which on two occasions I'm aware of has severely bogged down the truePlace Server and even caused people's sessions to drop immediately.

Nevertheless, there are needs for physics development in online scenes, so what I am asking here is can this bogdown effect be circumvented entirely by applying physics only within a small confined area of the online scene.

This is important, so any help will be appreciated.

Can you create a collision bubble dude?

An inch space around the object and a primitive for the collision cage

Create a copy of the object and expand it a little (cubic inch etc) centred on the original object and then simplify the collision-cage object. Then stuff hits the simpler collison cage and you fake it :)

well one place to start I think of is looking at a local physics environment surrounding the trigger. You can make one out of a cylinder, for example:

add a cylinder, then use one of the physics local physics icons. Do Not shell the cylinder though. The Local Environment is the Volume encased by the cylinder or
other object you create.

gotta go!

Thanks guys!

I think I've figured this out at last. There's another more urgent project I'm in development on now but I'll be back to this as soon as that is finished. Once we all have the ability to confine our physics sims effectively online we will have some really exciting new interactivity developments right away.:D

Thanks again,
