In several forum threads folk have talked about using the ts 7.5 record function to save a scene in such a way that it reduces the file size. Can anyone please explain to me if and how this could be used in this situation?

I have a large scene using all realtime shaders. This scene is a large space station designed for FP navigation. It has an opening door (using the proximity trigger), 4 elevators to the various levels of the structure and a teleport trigger that takes you to a shuttle craft nearby (and another tp trigger to get back).

All up, with textures, models and so on the scene weighs 18.11 MB.

Can this be saved via recording into a smaller overall file whilst still maintaining visual quality and containing the animation triggers in a working fashion?

If so, what is the procedure for doing this? I've RTM repeatedly but am confused by the plethora of recording options which are available.

I'd really appreciate some input on tyhis issue. The reward for you is you'll get to see this scene if I can get it down to a more net-friendly size.

I'm flat out busy myself involved in moving house for the next while so my computer time is very limited at the moment so I don't have a lot of time available for figuring it out myself.

Easy as NZ apple pie...
Select the Record Toolbar.
Within the the Record Toolbar.
Select the Start Record button.
Mouse over the Stop Record button and when it highlights, select it.
Select the Export Record button or now Insert As / RsRcd becomes available in the Library.
Do I win the prize? :D
I have been looking forward to seeing your scene.

Hmmn. Thanks for the mini-tut trueblue. That's exactly what I have been doing except for the 'insert as' option.

When I do this and reopen the RsRcd in tS 7.51 all is well, everything works as advertised and expected. However when I open the same file in truePlay 1.3 I am unable to access FPN :( . Everything is there as expected but the FP function does nothing.

Any ideas?

If I can sort this problem out then I'm almost ready to share the scene. Just a few minor cosmetic points to deal with.

There is a quirk activating FPN at times. It is suggested that you use an EntryPoint camera as the starting entrance to your scene. I would go one step further to help with this problem. I like to set up my entrance from the default Perspective view. The way you do that is resize and move your scene so that it fits inside the Perspective EyeCamera's coordinates. The reason for this is you can activate the default Perspective view to reset your entry point. Select the main title bar first then activate FPN. If nothing happens you have to use the ESP key to get out of the defunct FPN state, then select Perspective view and sometimes it is necessary to Reset View as well. Then you should be able to use Fpn. If none of the above works for you, I can make a script that activates FPN upon loading. Also if you choose to set up your scene inside the Perspective view it would not hurt to put the EntryPoint at these coordinates as well. I could also upload an EntryPoint camera with the Perspective's coordinates for you too. I could also send you a script that changes the Background color automatically too if that is needed. I hope this is understood and not to overwhelming it could be that you just need to add the EntryPoint camera and all will be well. Gee this process is almost as much work as moving down the street.

Wow trueblue! What's really scarey is I think I understood all that!

I do have an entry point camera in the scene - I want visitors to arrive in that specific spot then try to find there way through the various levels of the spaceship.

As everything is inside a skydome (well, sky sphere) the background colour is noyt inportant for this scene (though I can imagine how such a script could be very useful).

I'll try your perspective view suggestion (as soon as I can find the time!) and see what happens from there.

Thanks again for your assistance.

Re "this process is almost as much work as moving down the street" - Man you got that right! The devil is in the details!
