I've been working on a little critter and as I was going to send it to the WIP section I wanted to move it up out of the floor. Much to my disappointment I couldn't move it at all! I can't do this in Workspace or Model, I can still edit the object but I just can't scale it out or move it around. I tried to manually enter in the coordinates and that did not work either, the values changed back to what they were before.

I can't think of anything that I might have toggled either...hmmm. Anyway, any help that I could get would be great! Thanks!

tyler,

go into the LE and check to see if the Matrix was expanded somehow. If so, delete the expanded matrix. When the matrix is expanded, you can no longer control the translation and rotation of the model with the widget. Rather, trans and rots are controlled then by another object, like a timer, which connects to the matrix inputs.

Thank you for getting back so fast frootee! I checked the LE and I'm not quite sure what I'm looking at to see if the Matrix has expanded. I can see it listed but not whether or not it is controlling anything.

Oh, on an unrelated note, how do I find my customer ID? Thanks!

Hi tylerh.

No prob. For your customer ID I would contact Customer Service. I have no idea how to do that!

Regarding the matrix, you can tell by looking at the LE, and if the matrix is expanded, you will see, to the left of your object, a node connected to your object with a line. This node will have items on it like, tx, ty, and tz.

You can delete that node though I doubt it got expanded by itself. So:

Another thing to check are the X, Y, and Z buttons at the bottom of your screen. These axes may have gotten locked. You can lock an axis, preventing movement and rotation on that axis, for your object. The lock is active for an axis when the button is depressed. Check that as well.

HTH!

In this sample you can see what it looks like when you get the Matrix of a cube expanded. This happens usually by right mouse click.

If it is open for the object you wnat to move just close it

Main culprits here (LE aside) are usually the Axis buttons and bear in mind they may be toggled differently between move, scale etc.

Or, my favourite, the grid snap button...;)

Thanks again for the help! Great picture Emma, great name too, that's my daughter's name. Unfortunately, the Matrix is not expanded and the axis buttons are not toggled. Grid snap is not on either...

It's fixed!! I'm not sure what happened but I wanted to see if I could move any primitive or if it was just isolated to what I was working on and I could so I knew that I wasn't crazy or TS wasn't broke. That's when I noticed that there was a Matrix value in the Panels tab on the right hand side of the window. With the primitive selected (or in this case my critter) I right clicked on the Matrix text, but I think it would work if you clicked anywhere in the text, and then clicked reset. This cleared the problem, whatever that may have been.

Thanks again for the great advice! Now, if I get enough nerve to post a WIP of my first model than I can do so. Haha!
