Ok I am playing around with the TS uv-unwrapper..I just made a cube and hit the unwrap button and it tells me that it can't use closed objects or something like that. What does that mean? I may just have to go back to uv cow.

Rjeff, I've never seen an error like that, can you post a screen grab?

Oh. Sorry Jeff, it's been a long time since I used model-side UV tools. Model side UVE has serious precission issues though so it's much better to do your UV work in a 3rd party tool. UV Cow is good, but make sure you turn the bridge off or it will go really slow.

Also good are dedicated UV apps like: Ultimate Unwrap 3D, UV Unwrapper, and Headus.

Hold ALT key when clicking on unwrapper icon and the cursor will turn into a scalpel which you click on several :) edges of your cube. The cube will be unwrapped along your cuts and the result will be shown when you start the UV mapping editor.

I end up with this:-

I have just noticed that you can create your cube then click on the UV mapping editor and it unwrapps the cube nicely.

I normally use UUnwrapp;)

I may look into getting ultimate unwrap. Headus is way to much. I will first get used to uv cow again. I like the fact you can color your mesh different colors to you know where it all it when you flatten it.

I hate to kick a dead horse, but blender has one of the worlds best implemented unwrapping and UV-ing systems in the world (not just my opinion) ...it is also free and you can paint on your object in the viewport...
