This will be a "Journey" of experimentation. In this Journey there will be various renders done using the same Fractal Data but by changing settings get different results. I will then decide which render to use as the final.
I wanted to try out Dribble and to do that I needed to also use the Modeler Side of TS. To do that I had to consciously suck on a lemon to get in the mood since I am no longer a Modeler fan. So I start my Journey sucking already!:D
First I will create a Fractal using a program named Apophysis. I will also create a gray scale version modified to be used for my displacement file.
These two rendering will be my "Fractal Data" |

Now that I have my Fractal I will start up TS Modeler and apply the texture to a flat cube.
I'll select those pretty colored lights from the library while I'm at it.
Now is a good time to get Dribble ready too. The reason I want to use Dribble on a Fractal is to explore
Displacement. I want this fractal to become 3D! (at least to the eye):) |

With my flat cube slightly raised and with Displacement ("Amp") set to 6.07 the peaks and valleys will really become apparent. |

Now let me explore this new world...:)
One of these are just waiting for Wizards, Creatures of the Night, Trolls or Dragons.
The last one I see a hooded bird.
This feels like I'm in a submarine exploring the Ocean depths not knowing what will appear next...
Fractals and 3D are the Artist's Oceans just waiting for us to explore...
I plan on inserting one or more of my characters into this Fantastic Voyage so lets see what happens next. |

Using the exact same fractal data as before I'll apply texture to a sphere and then extruded various faces. I'm looking for a more diverse landscape.
I've included the screen grab and render. It looks like a mess now but just wait!;) |

Believe it or not all three of these landscapes came out of that last render which looked a mess.
You just have to look to find beauty in a render sometimes. |

Thank you Butterpaw. I hope you try this out yourself and share the results.
No sooner did I post the final render then did I see another person playing with Dribble, trueSpace and Fractal partnerships. A very cool threesome to work with. Nice work 3DFrog, I really liked your Ukranian Mystery piece you posted at CGtalk.
Are we all having fun yet?:) You bet! Energize!!! |

Hey Steinie, cool stuff. I used fractals for my composition but only the swirly thingie on the top. Not really a cool use of fractals like you have to turn to displacement. I used some regular old bump maps on my objects. I had fractals in my brain from looking at your composition though so that's how I thought to use them. |

Oh noooo...!! Dude! stop! You've just triggered flashbacks! My head is spinning... I've seen these before. I've been in there! Ahhhh...!
:D
Seriously... Nice work. Very interesting how when you raise/thicken a fractal pattern it creates a new feel, a new picture. |
