Just practicing modeling today, although there are 1 or 2 vertices that need some adjusting. Anywho. This rendered with TS7 using HDRI for a change. with a bit of work in photoshop. Makes me think, I should try and model a car to put these on.
Cheers, |

Excellent. SDS really seems to replace nurbs, though there have been T-Splines around to be the next step in nurbs modeling. I just prefer to drag and play with polys. |

Dave,
Nice models. If I dare chip in though...
Personally, I'd liked to have seen some tighter curves on the outer edges of the spokes. They look rounded as they join the rim, bulging out a little. A bit of tighter detail there and they'd be nice and crisp.. Could be your design idea though.
The same goes for the bead edge, from here it looks very rounded, rolling back from the face of the wheel to the tyre bead. Again, I'd have liked that with a soft edge meeting a nice crisp line where the tyre would sit.
Ignore as desired, just personal observations. :) No comment on the render, thats the easy bit. I'm purely looking at the models.

Thanks trebs, I will change these a bit as you suggested to define some of the edges where to tires would sit, a few well places loops should take of it I hope. I do like the way the spokes turned out so I may leave the roundness where they meet the rim.
Still have to create some rubber for these, and a valve stem, my first attempt didn't turn out as well I as I would have hoped so it's back to the drawing board. |

Interesting, clean, shiny. 6 holes to bolt it on.... Maybe they're for a truck?;) |

Very good start, Dave. Glad to see you have taken up sds modeling. The trick is now to learn to create "sharp" edges, which seems a contradiction in using sds... For more control, I avoid using the built-in sharpness control, and instead use real geometry by editing points, rows, etc.
Can't wait to see the car these will be fitted to. |

Thanks i_maker, I too prefer using geometry as well, having fun with SDS now. I have experimented in the past but I was wasn't having much luck as I wasn't defining the mesh very well. Just takes a bit of practice.
As hultek43 pointed out I have 6 holes for mounting the rim so when I get some time I will attempt to model a pickup truck, most likely something from the 60's or 70's not sure when though. |
