Hello everyone,
After getting my copy of trueSpace 7 installed and setup, I decided to create some new art from scratch rather than re-rendering my older models (like the 787B) as I first was going to do. I wound up with two complete scenes, each focusing on advertising art themes, both in the studio and on location.
First up is a conceptual design of a luxury lipstick product line. Housed in metal cases with a glittery beaded finish, the art for this project dictated a glamourous appeal. The scene was set with water lilly and natural outdoor light, accented with a gold tone fill light. The outdoor lighting, reflection, and shadows I created using an HDR set at 250 samples and a noise factor of 10. The gold fill light is an infinite light with no shadows, shining in from the right of the camera. The depth of field blur was rendered by trueSpace 7, not in Photoshop.
Rendering this image was time consuming. I had originally planned a 1024x780 render, and had invested 32 hours into this render (with about 10 hours remaining) when a power failure ocurred. Not having enough time to repeat the 40+ hours needed for a render, I chose 640x515 for the time being. Later I'll try the large size again, when I've got the time.
Still, the final result is much as I'd hoped. The most important areas for me were the metal shaders and the acrylic display stand (which was responsible for the long render times!). The water and flora came together easily.
The second ad art scene is "in the studio" and presents a set of quality telescope eyepieces. Lighting was a traditional studio arrangement, using an area light for the key and infinite lights for fills. The background has carefully placed spot to create the halo effect on the gradient backdrop. The shaders I paid most attention to were the metals, and the rubber mat used as a base for the eyepieces. Render time was under an hour for this scene at 1200x1000 pixels.
Based on my experiece so far, I am quite pleased with the upgrades to the rendering software. I had only a few difficulties adjusting to the interface, but they were worked out with a little patience.

Thanks for sharing Kevin,
These look good indeed, power outage sux eh? 2 things that I really like out of these images is the water in the first and the rubber mat in the second, very convincing.
Cheers, |

Thanks Guys :D
To Paul, sure I have attached the material (Silver Sand). It is my own creation. Shader works best with HDR at 2x AA for nice sparkles.

Good luck with the shader :)
Since I'm considering Vray as my contest prize, I was wondering if any Vray owners could comment on how shaders like "Silver Sand" would look in Vray?
