Consider the time it was finished before ripping it apart ;) 1 hour modeling (messed up the keys a few times), 15 min. shading and rendering (no library used).

Exactly, was a bit rushed though. It's the result of a little speedmodeling contest with Vizu. The target was to do it within an hour, but the first HDRI rendering looked waaaay too bright, it took me another 10-15 min. to get it roughly right. Btw, speedmodeling is great fun, and there's a lot to learn, would be interesting to see people post their results in this thread.

Good to see you're on the topic Matski. The render result isn't the point of it anyway, so never mind the bright keys. 16min. isn't bad. I was struggling with the split keyring, when I first applied sds layers, the mesh was totally messed up. I forgot to add some very important edges (same issue splinters had once).

lol its the standard TS shader, just comes out nicer rendered with HDRI in VRay with Caustics and such switched on, im a lowsy cheater really lol

Few ideas if anyone is interested

We ought to try get this speed modelling thing working, with more people adding their additions, plus would anyone be interested in a lighting challenge? whereby i provide an untextured and unlit scene in which people have to light and texture in their own way and post their results?

How did you go about making it?, looks a little complex,

It started out as a cylinder, subtract, extrude, copy, mirror, union, add edges, sds (too tired to explain the whole process).

The speedmodeling contest started when Vizu complained about his artistic depression (german IRC chat). I suggested a "one hour challenge" and those are the results.

I think the idea of any contest within a given timeframe helps tremendously to improve one's skills, so your idea sounds good as well.

Well im late maybe :) i did something, took me 2 hours, plus 9 minutes the render (fisrst image) and 11 minutes (second image) ts7.11 (ussing lightworks)... Most time was trying to get the right texture and ilumination.. but, its hard to get the right metal simulation.. i need to learn more about texturing... :)

The camera i've used dont have macro photo, so the focus is not good, haha...

Nice work guys! Speed modeling is great fun. It's definitely a great way to get used to finding the most efficient way to model things. I've got to get back into it myself. I've just been having too much fun in the LE lately. :)

This was fun, took me around forty something minutes. I decided to attribute it to me favourite footballers of all time! Howay the lads! I'll miss you Big Al. Also, Michael Owen is our only hope of ever being any good again, so hurry up and get that ACL in order! XD

Used two tauruses and then just booleaned them together, took out a few vertices, added a few edges between them, and voila! Instant spiral ring!

speedmodeling will be arranged in the IRC chat to make a time for the end of the speedmodeling ( 1 houre is mostly enought ) and than we can share the results.

This gives us the control over the time to ban out the cheaters ;)

ah yes and for sure, excuse my poor english.
