OK....it's been a while since I looked at this and i've had a free weekend to play around with it again. I started this project back in summer 06 and haven't really had the time to finish it until recently.
I think it's time to bring the project to a close. I have a final render that I am pleased with (although there are a few things I may tweak) and I have submitted it into the monthly gallery. Any modifications I do now will probably be to add into a scene or change the lighting setup.
Thanks for all the helpful comments you gave last year.

Inspired by Accu's 'contraption - buggy' I decided to do some post work for myself. [Bottom 2 images]

Nice work Hemulin - I'd wondered what happened to this project. Whilst technically it's a fan I don't think you can enter it in the 2 hour speed modelling challenge!!

Seriously though I like the illustrative treatment you've given this picture. Well done.

Might be my monitor but it looks a little oversaturated to the point where I cannot see the ariel.

Thanks guys, it's been a while coming and the high poly counts didn't help much either. I can't even pan around the scene without a serious lag, which meant I had to model the shell in a different scene and then import it. My poor Athlon64-3200 cannot handle these things anymore.

It is a little bright but I want that sort of look for this version

Full renders done at night at 3200x2400 adaptive antialising, looks great fullscreen at 1280x1024 then ;).

This is a fantastic model Hemulin, really great work!

If you ever script this model in TS7.5 to activate the fan and wheels please let me know, I'd love to load that into an obstacle course and go tooling around in it in TS7.5 or truePlay with First Person Navigation!!! It would be an absolute blast!!! :D

I think i'd need to do something about the poly count before that would happen, 400K+ Poly is a bit high for player to handle properly. However once that is overcome I don't think it would be that difficult to script, though i'm not sure I have the skills to do it yet. ;):)

Wow... I didn't think of how many polys that model must be to look that good. Still, maybe a "light version" of the general shape would suffice for some first-person-nav fun... no need for the battery of course and the tires could be done with just normalmaps maybe. I realize the idea isn't something that would probably appeal to you after all the painstaking work you already went through to perfect (and you did) this model for rendering... I know how much fun it is to re-work finished work!;)

On the other hand, if you ever do decide to scale the polys down and make a "light version" for FPN then let me know in PM and I'll create the very best obstacle course that I can to go with it! I don't have ClothMotion yet though, so somebody else will have to make the checkered flag!!! :D

Either way, great work Hemulin, very well done.
