Thanks a bunch, transient!
I really like the low-fi / toy camera type look.
Recently I've done a couple of tests with this in motion. In those tests, initially, I found that the grain moved too quickly. Well... it changes as quickly as the framerate (24fps), naturally, but it looked like video noise instead of film noise. Film grain should almost "dance" in a way.
Hard to explain, I guess. But long story short is I started rendering the grain on a separate layer at half framerate (12fps) and then overlaying it on the original and rendering out at the framerate of the original. What you get is a neat looking grain.
Technically, it doesn't make sense because the grain should change every frame, BUT it looks right.
I guess it's akin to how Disney handled character dialog, by offsetting the voice track from the mouth movement a couple of frames. Technically not accurate, but... looked right. |

Love it Frank, mind you I always liked your style. Reminds me of Little Big Planet or should I say, it reminds me of your work when I play it.

You could actually probably do the grain in a video editor afterwards. I know that Windows Movie Maker has something like that, and I think so does Video Edit Magic. |

Thanks, Splinters! A cousin of mine got L.B.P. recently - was really fun to watch!
robert: Thanks! Actually I do all grain and color adjustments afterwards in a separate app. Adobe After Effects, usually. |
