Browsing of own computer for file not working.

Upload file: click crash

Allowing any user to modify Artist Name and Title of Work after posting. Date field is allowing text entry.

Movement using "W" key is set too high. Overcompensating with the mouse. I tended to fight movement using mouse and keys. It felt like I was driving on ice.

Cool Idea but needs refinement.

I had similar result:
I was able to browse for file once per reboot, but tP crashed when upload button was clicked.
After the crash I was unable to get file requester to reappear until I rebooted.
I checked again this afternoon (Feb 3 2007) and browse for file is unavailable even with a fresh reboot.
Movement was painfully slow if I was facing the direction of any 'your image here' panels.
It wasn't like I was on ice, it was like I was frozen in ice.
FPN was impossible, it was use the widget or forget it.
They didn't even need to be in view to cause a slowdown, all I needed to do was look in their direction, even if they were on the other side of a wall.
Seems like a preponderance of finished artwork from one artist on display already... for a WIP gallery.
Good idea, now let's get it working correctly.

I gave it a try... my tennis ball pic. Sorry, not a recent wip but as was noted you can overwrite them easily enough.

No problems here with uploading more than once. Strange. I did reinstall tP 1.21 recently because it wasn't launching from my newly installed IE 7.0. Noticed that the DirectX part of install did download an update so maybe that might be something to look at. My trial run of the new place was done on this reinstalled version. IE7.0 works fine launching truePlay now btw...

Maybe some firewall settings could be interfering? Dunno.

Probably ok to allow WIPs to be replaced as you go. There may be some "difficult" individuals who indiscriminantly wipe out others images early or make joke postings but I think the vast majority here enjoy seeing one another's work. Admin can probably figure out from server any vandals if that becomes necessary. Maybe displaying name automatically of last poster may be an option to keep accountability.

My experience was similar to SpaceKdet's. I didn't try to upload anything - nothing I want to hang on the walls at the moment - but someone left super glue all over the carpet. I tried lowering all the rendering options, like no shadows, 256 texture size, no post FX, yada yada, but I saw no change in frame rate when looking in the direction of the images.

My other thought while there was why such a huge exterior space?

Hi all,

Sounds like the script is slowing you down - the text objects are scripts, you see, and my guess is that's the reason for the slow down. Being script driven, graphics settings won't improve things unfortunately. Best thing to do is contact technical support and let them know your system specs, and we can see where the cut off is in terms of what CPU is required for reasonable performance.

For the crashes on uploading, first thing is to check that version 1.21 is installed, since it will require that new version to work. Next step is to mail technical support :)

Sorry some of you have not been able to enjoy the space as it was intended. BTW the large space outside is just a "design" choice, it's meant to feel open and interesting, so it's a deliberate choice for the architecture of the space :)

HTH!

Looks like there’s been a big improvement on the speed overall. Thanks Team Caligari.

I can confirm the speed increase and upload now works.
Now if I only had a WIP...

Spacekdet Your latest work was kind of "ruff";)
I threw some stuff on the panels just so they weren't blank. Hopefully the site will start being used for it's intention. I'd like to see all the halls filled with artwork.

Paul how about a 3D model of a sculpture or model (head/bust) displayed in the lobby that you can walk around?

You could even put it in the center of the lawn with seats around it. Have a poly limit and have users submit each model.

Another idea:

It would be awesome to have W!zards ship rendered in real time and be able to walk around it. You could have lights that change with time. Night, Day, Stormy Weather, Clouds overhead, Rainbows etc. (psst I bet he would donate it for an upgrade to 7.5;) )

Also at some point look into a paintball game. That could be fun!

3dpdk and spacekdet your new renderings look great in the Gallery too! Or am I suppose to be standing in front of them saying that with my hand on my chin.....

I've run into another snag in the WIP Gallery.
I'm attempting to swap out my existing image for a lower-resolution/ smaller size version.
The 'Show Panel' brings up the usual panel, but clicking the browse ( ... ) does nothing. Hitting 'upload' at this point crashes tP.
Deja Vu all over again.
The funny thing is, trying it out on a blank image frame works...i.e., clicking browse ... brings up the standard file requester as expected.
Can anyone else confirm?
Have the existing images been 'locked' somehow?

Edit: I just tried swapping out someone elses' image and I'm able to get the 'Browse' function to work there...just not with my own image.
Curiouser and curiouser.

I just checked every single Panel and the only one broken is "Frame_11_" which is yours. Good thing you didn't put up a picture of you in the shower!
The crash when you select upload with no files selected happens at all Panels.
I also checked out my file sizes and they were way over 80K so I compressed them all and resubmitted. Spacekdet why not post to a new panel or even post over one of mine. I don't want to be a Pepe...I mean hog.
There are two blank panels just waiting for the next Artist to submit. W!zard it would be nice to see one of yours take shape up there. WW of the West you've been a little quite lately. Any new users want to try it? If all the panels are taken please help yourself to my panels. I want to see new stuff to keep it fresh.

spacekdet, I,ve replaced that dodgy panel , but cant quite work out why it went wrong,

Crash clicking upload before browsing for an image is caused probably by the script importing an image thats already imported to the panel, so it gets confused, as its trying to execute step 2 without first executing step one ,but there should be a way to avoid this problem.

thanks for checking the panels out Steinie, and great ideas.
