a combination of metaballs and bones.

1)Membranes:

*meet/merge at joints/where two or more bone armatures meet.

*toggled on a per joint basis.

*taper, bend, twist, bulge settings

*offset(control mesh density by joint distance)

*density(integer of (x,y,z))

2)UV mapping assignments based on bones:

*any polygon that has more than 50% of it's vertex weight assigned to a bone *would inherit mapping from said bone

*ability to set mapping style(cylinder, box, sphere) on a bone by bone basis

I would never use it(who knows), but it sounds kinda fun.(I could already hear people saying.."Like Z-brush?" or "Skinny?")

Are you talking about something along the lines of "z-spheres"?

Ha Ha, yes kinda, but with mapping options. Add also, the "Caligari" twist...the uniqueness of their tools...they are almost always a little off base...most times in a good way IMO.

Given the more logical nature of tS7, over previous versions, It would simply be an alternate form of bones that would do all you've said. If you recall an OLD tool from Coolfun, I forget the name but you used very flexible Meta-splines to model a character or creature blending them all together in the end to make a final mesh. Seemed cool. I guess this concept grew into Z-Spheres.

Although I could see the influence envelopes being used for UVs as well. Still having Bones determine UVs has not really been done before. I don't know if Caligari would try something like this without precedent.

I feel just the opposite(as far as Caligari, they do not necessarily "follow" the industry)...though I don't see them pursuing this as it may be a waste of dev time....on the other hand this is just an idea...and as that hopefully spark better more innovative ideas. Ideas that are worth developing.
