I found this site (http://www.evermotion.org/index.php?unfold_exclusive=84&unfold=exclusive) that had loads of sky HDRI files....anyway, I downloaded a couple and started experimenting and by experimenting I mean switching between files and render to see how they look. Anyway, I came across 2 issues. The first is that if you regularly switch images, particularly .HDR files, in the GI section of VRay it seems to crash truespace with a system error. There is no specific amount of times but It often happens after doing a render and then changing, but not always.

The second one is a bit more unusual. I had just completed a lengthy render (30-40 minutes for a 320x240 image) and then tried to change the HDR file. Every time I tried, it went through the motions of changing the file and then did nothing. I had started a vray render and was expecting 2 hours and it happened very quickly and I noticed the lack of image. This so far has happened once.

Thank you very much brother for this, you inspired me to look at HDRI again and I got it working quickly after seek-and-finding Prodigy's 'Hold Ctrl down and double-click on Environment Image' also very helpful post thanks Prodigy

Very nice images there cheers brother but can you tell me please?

Can the HDRI image be somehow rotated around the building I am building so that we can move the sun or major light around our models do you know?

I can see that I can rotate the building to greet the sun of course but so many objects to move now if commanding the sun like Joshua can't be done... we'll need to be brave bruv :)

Hm, I know this thread is abit old...just surprised it got no answers..?

(great tip about that site btw, gonna download thoose HDRI's when I get home :D )

Unfortunately I don't have PhotoshopCS2 at work and can't check the pixel-size of the HDRI's, but tried comparing them with the ones that came with ts7.5.

First, tried it in Workspace with Vray, bridge off, and using the new rightside VRay panels:

for example, ts7 kitchen v-cross is a 2Mb file, and when loaded into tS it seems to occupy about 26Mb of memory.

If I remember correctly from home, that file is 1000-2000pixels high?

One of the HDRI's downloaded from the site, 14Mb file, and takes about 130Mb of memory.

So, I'm guessing that the downloaded HDRI's are abit too big, and if you switch HDRI's the memory occupied isn't compeletly cleared?

When switching HDRI, try rightclicking on the panel-image and select Reset, minimize the tS window and then maximise it again ( for some reason this lowers the memory for tS process when checking it in taskmanager... not sure if it really clears memory or just push it into cache..?)

When trying it in Model side, bridge off, Lightworks engine....

The HDRI just renders completely black... this is something I constantly get when using too big images for textures (the limit is around 3000-4000pixel in size)

I have encountered HDRI images that are close to 10000pixels wide... and that isn't usable! It takes too much memory and tS will either render black or give the error of death message ;)

I usually resize the HDRI's to 1000pixel wide in PhotoshopCS2 (someone might now of free or cheaper software that can do that?)

since that size is enough for most lighting and reflection situations.

Usually gets too blurry for background use so then I cut out the interesting part of the HDRI and save as jpg (or similar).

As for getting animated HDRI......

Again..I don't know if there are free/cheap ware that can do it, but in PSCS2 I can use the Offset filter on HDRI's (moving it for example 5pixels to the right and then it wraps around on the other side)

If doing this on a "resized to a reasonable size" HDRI and saving all offsets as separate HDRI's....I know I've read that someone made a LE script for making animated texture by shifting the pointed image...maybe that can be done with HDRI too???

(on modelside there is some angle setting....but that never worked for me..)
