I work on an interior scene and get it lit nicely and then I put it down to work on an exterior scene

When I load the interior scene some weeks later the area light will not light the interior from the exterior. I check the glass, I remove the glass. I check the area light isn't blocking its own light or something and I crank up the lighting level to night football searchlights level. The place should be roasted. Black scene. Other lights work. What is it up with area lights reloaded <starts biting the furniture>

You're right it does feel better. Who knew? :)

This one might go under "Bugs" rather than "Rants and Raves"...

Thanks trulySpaced :)

I'm not sure if it's a bug though, it could be me I've not used TS for very long

Last time this happened I did get the area light working eventually so I figured it was me. I remember that someone back then asked me to check the light for blocking and it wasn't that or the glass not being glass material - I stumbled around and fixed it eventually as I will this time I hope

Could I ask a supplementary please :)

Another little problem is that I cannot get the Background colour to show in Vray even though I found the fix for it in here not long ago

Now everything I try on 7.51 I can't get the Background colour to show and can't even get the Photorender menu to show while working in Vray

I really wish I could help you, but I'm kinda a beginner for TrueSpace 7.5, and I don't own VRay....

I'm really not sure, but try replacing the area light with another one.

I don't own VRay, so I'm not sure about the VRay problems, but for the background; do you mean it isn't showing rendered or unrendered?

I apologize for not being much help...

Thanks TS I knew there was something I was forgetting, that was it I think yes start again with a new light - ta mate! I was in dog-with-a-bone mode maybe

the background; do you mean it isn't showing rendered or unrendered?

I'm using a pink background for a team mate (movie team) to overlay stuff but the colour goes back to dark blue (all this in modelspace I should say) and resists setting to pink. Works ok on my home machine

not being much help...

Not at all mate, it's a Rants thread and your support gives one a morale boost and a spot of brainstorming thanks again :)

No problem! Not too sure how to fix the background problem... Maybe someone with more experience, or someone from Caligari can help you on that one (and on the VRay thing too)!

for vray background to show, click the default button on photorender panel. it has a pop up list with background on it.choose background .choose cokor fron the list beside the word background on panel...select color with 'background color' color square with a double left click

That did the trick thanks very much trueSpaced!

Stan I do that and no pink background (Vray render) in either Modelling window or Workspace window using both ways to render the scene in Vray. I'm looking at the Background Color pink but no pink background and also the pink colour doesn't stick and reverts to the default

Same with Lightworks, reverts to grey default background color

I know it works it was working the other day but- plus the Render Area icon is sticking and when I change it to Render Scene the icon sticks at Render Area all the time

Yes I agree TS these appear to be buggy, will report them

Thanks both for your help!!

Peter

Sorry for the apparent Jingoism it's not that, it's for a WW2 airfield scene which needs the RAF flag fluttering

short of a reinstall, you could try deleting the default.ctx and ler ts generate a new one.. or if you saved any backups of your default.ctx use one..that usually fixes everything..it'
it's easy to get ts out of wack, but also easy to get it working properly again:D

Ah thanks stan that's something I hadn't thought of. Yes I have a BackupConfigPeter folder in there I see, great idea thanks!

Under Vista there's a 'list all the crashes' function and TS is in there a few times. That might account for things getting out of sync over time yes stan good point I'll refresh TS now and then ta

I've noticed (while you guys have been helping) that Vray renders from Workspace might be quicker than from Modelspace. I wish Workspace functions behaved like Modelspace functions. Without all that bloat in the link editor

Still in Rants and Raves. It's allowed :)
