I tell you what I would love to see in TS. I have to say that I do like Bryce for two reasons. One is the Sky lab and the other is the light lab. I would love to see TS impliment a sun button. You then can even specifiy the time of day you want the sun to be and there it would be. A sky tab would be nice as well. In my opinion Bryce does do sky very well. One more thing. I like the save camera buttons Bryce has. You can set 6 different angles you like and just click a button and it takes you back to it.

Whilst I recognise the validity of this suggestion I have to say that I think tS lights are fine. The Bryce interface is not something that I took too myself - especially the material editor.

There are many ways that you can use sky images created in Bryce, Vue, MojoWorld or your own digital camera and use them in tS. Using IBL's means it's relatively easy to use tS lighting without the need for a specialised 'Sky Lab' IMHO.

Bryce, Vue, Mojo Terragen and so on are specifically intended as landscape renderers whereas tS has a far broader range of abilities. The trick is to use each of these tools in conjunction with each other.

BUT...I am all for simplicity in things and the option to specify sunny afternoon, early dusk etc. would be welcome. However, there was such a thing for tS6.6.

Ambientlight (I think) did a free range of IBL lights. I have them on my machine somewhere and it had about seven or eight lights rigs that specified different types of light/times of day. They were really useful.

Splinters is right, it was AmbientLight (though they don't have them available anymore as far as I know) and they were brilliant.

I realise that's not a lot of help, just confirming Splinters memory deficiency! :-)

Didn't someone once release a plugin that simulated various times of day and world locations with directional lights?

One thing I'll be adding to dribble is the ability to generate full physical skies, it's really quite cool. I have to get the generated skies integrated with the other environmental rendering options though.

Yeah, 'SunShine' from UVWorx. It, and many others, can be downloaded from here: http://synthart.com/Urban/tsx/index.html

Aaargh! Behind on all my replies!

Yeah there were/are some good setups in the Light Library that comes with tS 6. I don't think that ever used any of them 'as is' but they maske a good starting point for experimentation.

I'm intrigued about what you're saying about AmbientLights lights. Did he have just simple gradients as the reference image?

I've always found that each picture requires a unique light set up for my tastes. And IBL's using the same image as is used in your skydome or background image warks a treat!

It might be worth creating some realtime light setups for realtime scenes but I don 't know how practical that would be givern the number of variables involved with realtime lights.
