This hasn't a thing to do with trueSpace or 3D in any fashion. I just updated my calendar and discovered I'm 55 day nicotene free. I may actually pull it off this time. That leaves more time and money to throw at 3D!

When did I start? .......During LBJ's administration......Yes, I'm a geezer.

Hey, keep it up. It does get easier. Breaking routine is the hard part. I've lapsed a couple of times since I quit in.. 9..9? but I haven't had a cig in a couple of years.

Awesome. I keep trying to quit without success. One of these times. 55 days is quite an accomplishment. I started smoking in 1983.

10 months and 10 days for me (not that I'm counting!!!). Better off? Certainly don't agree with that. You give up smoking, you put on a bit of weight and have to buy new clothes. I reckon I've spent more on new wardrobe this year than I ever would have on ciggies! :)

Congrats, I gets easier and easier.

Proud of ya, old man :)

I'm still struggleing with my nicotine addiction. Set them down for many months years ago, then picked them right back up. Don't fall into the same trap I did. Keep going and don't look back!

Keep it up and take it one day at a time.

My wife and I stopped 8 years ago and I rarely, if ever feel the need for fag these day (a wee play on words for my American chums :D)

We have had a total ban on smoking in enclosed public spaces pubs, restaurants etc in Scotland for a few years now and its now a joy to go out for a meal and not be tempted :)

Good luck and keep going

Cheers

Thanks for all the encouraging words. You've each helped strengthen my resolve.

I've started considering myself an "escaped smoker". It reminds me that if I weaken I would have to start all over again.

....Now day 56 is in the can! :)

Thanks again and good luck and fortune to all us "quitters"!

As a proud quitter myself, I can tell you that after 56 days you do indeed have it 'in the can'. It's all mental now- actual physical effects are done within 3 weeks of quitting. I've always thought that the first habit to break is the one where you ask the clerk at the store/gas station for 'a pack of Rotten Lungs (http://search.live.com/images/results.aspx?q=smokers+lungs&mkt=en-us&scope=&FORM=LIVSOP), please, in the box.' As long as you can bite your tongue for that short moment you can go a long way.
Sort of a 'Don't Ask, Don't Smell' policy!
Don't buy 'em, don't bum 'em, don't look back!
Congratulations.

Wow! Rotten Lungs indeed! Those pics would inspire anyone to quit.

Thanks for the additional motivation, spacekdet.

When those little doubts and temptations come creeping I'm going to use these pics as a reminder.

I'm ten years clean - I'm also ten (plus) kilos heavier - oh well. It is worth it but the biggest problem I found and one which is rarely discussed is it became very difficult to concentrate ....... now what was I going to say? Doesn't matter.:p

Good for you! Now...what to buy!?

I haven't smoked a cigarette since 12/29/06 (apparently, near the same time as TWWOTW) - so I've got 9 months and 18 days...289 total times the $4 that I would have spent on cigarettes per day = $1,156!

$1,156 minus $650 that I spent on my discounted floor display 37" Magnavox HDTV (I bought it for myself as a gesture of commitment) means it's now paid for, and leaves $506 to put towards the Denon AVR-987 I bought (at $200 off) to go with it!

Quitting smoking kicks @$$!

289 days x 20 per pack = 5,780 fewer cigarette butts not littering the landscape SO FAR...render that! Not even a year yet.

Any current smokers able to count how many plumes of smoke come out of a Marlboro 100? I'm curious how many plumes x 5,780 that I haven't exhaled. ;)

I can't forget about the seven minutes I would have sat somewhere waiting for that thing to burn up. 7 x 5,780 fags = 40,460 minutes / 60 = 674 hours / 24 = 28 full days...ALL OF FEBRUARY would have been spent slowly breathing in cyanide!

Hopefully something in there will rekindle the firm stance you should take in forcing yourself "just not to do it". Be proud! For me it was after that fifth week I needed to think about the feeling of all those arteries tightening up again and that dizzying, nauseating headrush you get when you smoke after your blood had finally started flowing again from lack of smoking. After 60 days...your current landmark...this is about the time where you begin enjoying not smoking...where the ride is over and it doesn't bother you any more...the two month mark. Congratulations!

Treat yourself to something nice now.

And for the potential non-smokers out there, it's never to late to stop - the sooner the better. No need for pills, patches or gums to keep nicotine in your system, you just STOP. It's a change, it's supposed to feel different. Deprive yourself for a few weeks as punishment for doing it in the first place. Do whatever it takes. Want to, and you will. You can.

Congrats and well done to all you fellow quitters - I'm something like 4.5 years smokefree and I reckon it was worth stopping just for the thrill of tasting food again after (cough, cough) 30 years of lunging up.

The financial rewards are also considerable - I channelled a good proportion of my ciggie funds into computer gear. My partner also stopped a couple of years back (following my shining example!) and has recently bought herself a beautiful new guitar with funds she saved by not buying gaspers.

Re putting on weight - yeah I think all ex-smokers gain some weight but I prefer to think that I'm finally reaching the weight that is natural for me and that smoking kept me underweight!

Additionally, in many cultures carrying some extra weight is a sign of abundance - and I'm certainly more financially abundant since I gave up!
