Are there any preset motion cycles in tS 7.6 (running, walking, jumping, etc...) that I can apply to my characters ? If so, where are they (Assign TABs Library ?) and how can I apply them to my character ?

Open your library browser from the popup menu along the bottom of TS . In it are 2 folders. Both folder names start with BVH. Off the top of my head one is BVH moves and the other BVH sports or names to that effect. Double click on both of them. This will load the libraries into your stack view on the right of screen.

double click on any of the enclosed BVH files. this will bring into the 3D window the BVH animated skeleton complete. If you hit the play button ( like vcr controls) in the animation window at the bottom of screen the animated skeleton will move. Then you need to bind a character from the Character library to the bones. Maybe a minor weightpaint to ensure correct bits of the body are attached to correct bones, and there ya go 1 BVH animated character

Hope that helps

Fastest way to learn about rigging/ skinning etc is to check out the manual section on skeletons rigging etc. It includes a good video tutorial on rigging / skinning /binding etc. All the bits you will need to know.

All the videos and the manual etc are downloadable and all are free..

Hope this is gets you going in the right direction.

Check it out, it should get you up and running real fast.

Best wishes

I'm not getting the "mesh" display option that the manual refers to put skin on the BVH bones. The manual is too vague...I need more input (help)!

The word mesh is refering to your 3D model ( the model of a character in your case). A box a character a castle, any 3Dmodel ... all these models can be refered to as a mesh or model. Words are interchangable.

Hope that clarifies a little for ya

The BVH bones are on my screen.....I'm doing everything you would normally think of to the "attach skin to skelliton" icon and on screen BVH bones representation (dbl click, right click, drag) but nothing happens. The best I get is the skinning box and a whiskey bottle representation that doesn't create any skin. There is no representation of skin (or mesh) to work from. Can you attach skin to a preset character (BVH bones) ? What am I not doing ?

Mr. Bones,
I can't believe you found this old thread and dug it up. This was one of my old threads. I signed them as questions (How, What, etc..) and added:cool:, before I became involved with the Forum (as Mr. 3d).
Being dicouraged with my results, I haven't tackled this dilema yet. I am currently just trying to perfect how to shape models.

Any input you have is more than WELCOME !
My questions were on the lines of how to permanently attach a formed shape to a bone.
Also....If there was a way that I could separate a premade BVH character from its bones and attach it to my empty shell in order to manipulate it without having to create my own bone and joint structure. I did manage to separate the character from its skeleton awhile back, but I was unable to figure out how to glue it to a separate figure.

Yes on both accounts,

You can attach a mesh to bones and also unnatach a skeleton from a mesh and use the preexsiting bones to attach to your own character model mesh.

Can you show me a screen of the figure you were attempting to attach to?

Cheers

I can't read the Flash file.

My problem has always been gluing the bones to an object.....they wont adhere.
If you tell me the exact tool sequence to select (and any unforseen steps....like chew on a chicken bone while singing "Them Dry Bones"), then I can probably figure it out.

LOL,

Can you try dropping the flash file into your web browser?

It might play in there.

If not I will try to explain it for you.

Cheers
