Hi guys I'm currently working on a Bar for a school film project (SAE)

Anyone there is using maya, but I still prefer Truespace.

Here are the first few renders ( no details and not the right textures yet )

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZMQbFIPuZJ8

But i have a lot of problems:

My screen renders black even if I use small textures or even no one at all.

Sometimes when I light the scene with HDRI it also renders black

then I save the scene, restart Truespace and the first render works.

Then I want to render an animation it renders black again.

As you see on the last few (wireframe) screenshots, it's not high poly or something ( It should render fast and nice )

The Transformer I made had millions of Faces and renders fully shaded with HDRI in 8 minutes in 1600x 1200 2x AA

Anyone has a clue what I can do `?

I really need that scene because we have an real actor that will walk along there.

Greets, Chris ;-)

did you check that accidently you are not inside an object, that would explain the black renderinng

Yes thank you :D

I have 800 Frames all black..

As i said, the problem is that it not really has a cause..

It works after restarting truespace but only once then I have to change to normal lighting (no hdri on ) and it renders again - but the animation render stays all black.

I also reinstalled truespace a few times as this happend.

I also have problems in the same scene when I hit undo the programm freezes for 10 seconds and when i glue something its the same.

Saving the scene takes 20 seconds and sometimes only 1.

It depends on how to programms mood it^^

Sometimes when I'm in top view and zoom out with the mousewheel the programm just closes without an error message.

I really like to finish my projects, but i'm having this problems all over again.

I have a AMD 6400+ 4 GB GEIL Ram and a 4870 1GB HD RADEON

I had no problems for example on my AMD 3500+ old agp system with that^^

Only in huge scenes with trillions of Faces it rendered black.

I had that problem once when I used HDRI lighting. Just got a blank movie, very frustrating. It was just finger trouble in my case. I had accidentally typed 0 (zero) instead of 10 (ten) into the "Sample" field in the HDRI lighting pulldown menu.

HTH.

I am not sure if the black render is a problem from hdri because i had the same problem with vray. Only the first render working after i had a blanck render. I think that this happens when a scene has an unknow problem (bug?).

I solved the problem by saving the objects (and light, cam,...) of the bad scene and then create a new a scene in which I have placed all the elements of the bad scene.

Other thing: see the size of the scene on your hard disk. If you think that the size is anormal (too big) and if you work on the model size, try to choose 1 for "undo history" and bridge "off" then save the scene. When i do that some scene have ten times smaller! Some days ago I'm moving from 330 megas to 17 megas.

It is also possible that is an other problem. To work on complex TS scene, it is unfortunately necessary to know the bugs and know how to remedy before being bored.

should be a tutorial for bugs :D

Thx a lot Marcel ;-)

I saved the whole scene as a single object including cam, lights etc.

It worked, but after adding another object into the scene it happend again :S

If you work in model size, try with bridge "off" and all windows in wireframe BEFORE to load the scene (that avoid crash sometime). You know now why it is important to save as objets when you have a problem.

Can you post a zip with the scene and textures? It is the only way to know what is wrong.

After some more crashes, I decided to rethink the whole scene and tested something. I made all textures 800x600 jpgs , same with bump maps...

Now it works all the time no matter how much i load into the scene^^

It seems that it only was a texture issue, because I made some photos last week and made seamless textures from it .

(they were just to big that ts could handle them all)

The other thing is, I rebuild the scene the 5th time (now with working textures and no crashes :D) and I'm glad, because this NEW scene just took me 2 Hours to make, because I learned a lot today from my faults.

It will be finished in 1 week I hope....
I add a lot more details, volumetric lights, fog, DOF, Better UV mapping etc....

It's just a quick example that I finally have something to show tomorrow in school :D

Now I finally can go to sleep ^^ was a nice a productive Truespace Day :D

Special Thx to Marcel ;-)

Good night anyone ;-)

nice work.

When i do a complex scene with a lot of textures in the model size, i use 2 folders for the textures: one with low resolution and one for the original. The textures need to have the same name on both folders. I work with the low resolution textures. When i finish the scene, i save as an archive and replace the textures in the archive folders by the high resolution textures. Also You can put the archive scene in the high resolution folders. The new scene have no path for the textures and search the textures in his folder first. Archive clean your work (only the textures used by the scene are in the archive folders, it is useful if you use textures from differents folders and to keep your work clean).

Now you can render without black in hd definition (only one time, remember the bug). Keep the low resolution textures if you need to change the scene later.

Try to upload with a size under the max authorized by the server. Resize can smooth the picture.

Scale down in a 2D art package, then use the magic Unsharp Mask to bring the crispness back! Any auto scaling down from a website upload doesn't feature that step so smooths our your image as Marcel notes.

This is nice work. :)

Main crit I have is that the powerlines are a bit thick. Lots of detail and interest in the image though.
