Nez, coolest compliment a person could get, thanks to everyone for refueling me!
Working on the Jewel Roof using the DX9 Scales Materials set at 60 repetitions and Lead Crystal Material which I rendered separately then combined. You won't see much of the roof in the final but here is what I created so far.
Started with a cone, added loops, selected every other vertex and normal extruded.
Oh yea the Serpent's Tongue was not hand drawn.... |

Hmm.... I like the roof concept, but I'm not sure I like the texture...
Hey that's really cool that your son likes my work. I'm still learning the tools just like everyone else here, and he's clearly better at drawing concept sketches than I am! I hope he'll take more after his father who works his projects to completion though! Especially since, I never did finish that dog house scene! ;) Suppose one of these days I can re-concept it into something more artistically interesting and finish it...just so I can say it's done... lol |

I'm really liking the roof, great idea on bringing out the rickety home made type of feeling I get from it. I was wondering though, what do you mean that you added loops? |

Tylerh,
I used the cone primitive in the example. Did you need more information or is this enough? Glad you like the roof example. Not sure yet which one I'm picking yet. I do like the rickety feel. |

Oh, ok! I didn't realize it was a tool. I thought it was a super secret technique that you artists have. Thanks for the picture by the way! |

Well I've been working on this one tonight and it is almost done. I am not posting anymore updates because I want this one to be a surprise! This is possibly the best I've done in TS yet, so I'm very excited to show you . It may not be to your taste but it will certainly fit in with the upcoming Halloween Festivities.
Approximate time left to finish 8-12 hours.
Hope you like it!:) |

Glad to see you're motivated again Steinie! :D I've not got the time I'd like to spend here (or with tS for that matter) so I missed your dark hour there. But rest assured that there's many lurkers encouraged and inspired by these forums... and your style is so unique it really makes me amazed sometimes about how you achieve the look you do in 3D. Every time I see your new avatar I think "Cool, what's he been up to?"
I know lack of comment is a bummer but just this thread shows how encouraging this place can be.
..and besides the MMC *requires* you to post a WIP, so there :p
As for this piece, I really like it. It has a real dark feel. I like that I can't quite work out where the serpent begins and ends. I have a soft spot for pumkins too... I used to go by the name Dr.Stein after a Helloween song (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dr._Stein)so this is like a trip down memory lane... :)

Ok just one more to show tree was done in TS...This is just one of my test pics. How I did it?
Box Modeling, Normal Extrude and SDS. Tree textures handpainted and then real bark layered in PS.
Tylerh, Jack and Blakeo thanks for your feedback and comments. I listen and learn from everyone's input. Love or loathe at least you responded, and that's a "Reaction".:) |

This is one Rendering I wish could be allowed a larger size. A lot of detail is getting lost.

Wow! I watched you do it and still don't know how you did it. :(
You drew that right, it's really not 3d? :)
I know it's 3D , just hard to figure how you get all those twisty turning things to do that. :p |

The roof came out nice in the final. Very nice work on this one!
(and I agree with trueBlue.... the days of model side are hopefully growing quickly dim....) |

I decided to take everyones suggestions and work more on the background to give it a finished look. Stars actually weren't in the original concept but boy it does make it look better as you all noticed. The final (now posted in "finished") is more of how I want it to look. The one here is after a couple brews last night with trueBlue...:D
