Since this is my first MMC is decided to start with something relatively simple, the Geforce 6200TC. Updates of the WIP will follow in this thread.

Looking good, Hemulin. :)

Looks good so far - but it's missing the screws that I usually drop inside the computer case when I try to install anything. :)

More components added. I think most of them are there now. Have done a bit of work on the sockets, still have to add the metal part though.

I always get suspicious when I see Hemulin turning out detailed models like this...too much free time? should I be setting him more work at school?...

I have currently stopped to read these forums whilst trueSpace is hanging (too many polys - going to have to start using layers and make things invisible :))

Thanks for all of the comments guys.

More detail on the components

I decided to give you a 'real' render this time. ;)

Looking good! You could do one of those new cards which are all encased in plastic making them easier to do as you can't see individual components any more ;)

Yes that spring coil thingy is good, I see tutorial requests for how that was made (starting with mine - how did you do that?)

Thanks!

Tom

I cheated.

It's not a coil, its just rings copied multiple times round a 3/4 cylinder which has the centre booleaned out. Why make work for yourself! ;)

I don't think that is called a 'cheat'...it's known as being creative and thinking outside the cube or perhaps a 'work around':) All i know is, it works and no little gray cells in the brain suffered in the process! go! hemulin! GO!

I have been busy with work today  so haven't done anything though I will probably do some more tomorrow. Here is the most recent render from yesterday though. I still have to model the dvi/vga/s-video sockets and I am not happy with the shadering/lighting on a few things.

Ok, I've had a few hours today to add a little more to this project. I've added the dvi/vga ports and backplate and I've changed the shader on the heatsink to try and make it looks more realistic.

I'll be darn if that isn't a very nice modeling and texturing job. I've watched from the start and each step you made it better. Looks great!

Thanks Steinie, I've got an interesting idea for a final presentation shot so I will post that in the next week or so.

Looks great. Really nice modeling and some great texturing. The only thing that draws my eye is the plastic on the back of the sockets. They look a little flat and too new. Maybe a little more shine and some scratches would improve things.

Other than that, great work.

If you mean the yellow/blue socket casing things ;), I will probably add a bump map for the final render.

Hey jamesmc, these are early days yet. I'm a student so I probably have a little more time than most to do this sort of thing (or maybe it's because I don't sleep ;). Don't judge just yet you still have loads of time to finish your project, and if you need any help with anything feel free to PM me.
