Ok here is my first render. I have two questions. One the copper plate you see is supposed to have thoes oblong objects, cut out. Now I have tried everything I know and I keep getting that stupid Boolean precision error. I have moved them up, down, left and right. I am stuck. The second one is, is it possible to use the taper or bend tool to bend my copper plate to match that of the fins?

What I mean to say is. Can I bend just that one end while keeping the part where the cooling fan will go straight?

rjeff, you could use the draw edges tool and model them in instead of using the boolean tool. Also if it looks right from the side you can see, then it doesn't really matter what it looks like underneath. ;)

Sorry, my fault I conflated two tools. Add edges and poly draw. They are Point Edit tools, there's not much serious modeling that you can do without them. ;)

Ok I do know poly draw and the other.

Ok how do I resolve this flat area when I sweep this cylinder along a path?

I can't speak for tS7.x, but in 6 and earlier, you right click the sweep tool and press the 'BEND' button before you sweep. That will make the Z axis of the swept poly align with the sweep path. In that panel you can also set the number of floors created per sweep to smooth the final mesh more. As with the BEND button, the number of floors must be set before the sweep...you can't change it afterward and have it update the swept mesh.

HTH

Edit: OOOOPS! I missed the 'along a path' part. I commented on the regular sweep tool. Seems like something similar is available for the sweep along a path tool too but can't remember...sad part of growing old I suppose :)

Ok...here is a render of the card as of this moment. I wanted to get more done last night, howerver I had issues. Well I finally got the openings on the top plate cut and now I have to bend it. I hope I can get the lower heat sink done and the heat pipes done tonight.

Ok here is a new render. I have finally got my top plate assembly complete with the heat sink fans. I also added the fan mount in there as well. Now I have have to do the back side heat sink fan and the heat pipes. Then comes all the deail work.

Ok here is a top and bottom view of the card. I have now got the heat pipes added as well as the bottom heat sink fan.

Ok here is an update..I am so far behind...but I have had to rebuild this thing 3 times. Now I pretty much have the heat sinks done I just have to adjust them some.

It is cool how yours and hemulin's graphics cards look so different. Both fine jobs of modeling too. Keep up the good work.

yeah indeed. I think I may have bitten off more than I can chew ine one month. This card has a lot to model. I think I have finally gotten the heatsinks like I want them. Now I have to get the small stuff done.

no worries dragon..I will have the model done...the haredest part is complete..well I still have the fan and wire to do..that may be hard...but the texturing will be the issue that beats me on this one.

Looking good RJeff. You just need to get a good photo of the circuit board without the heatsink so you can texture it. :)

This is looking really good RJeff! It's going to be a tough choice deciding who to vote for. The contest is definitely heating up!

I addded the connector for power to the fan and power to the board itself. I also did a new render with the heat sinks and pipes on it. I have to adjust the bottom sink a bit.

Ok I have added some of the small textures on the some of the parts. Not sure what they are technically called. But they are the cyliders and the 3 black rectangles infront of the small heatsink.

I've just realised, we're both modelling the same brand of graphics card :). Nice work though.
