How did you get the glow? Postprocess ?Thanks,I used a little bit of postprocess and I also placed some orange lights behind the lettering to keep from getting shadows

Nice work Brian. It could do with a rougher ground texture and maybe a light for inside the building shining through that bright crack and casting a light on the ground. Just a thought.

Just a thought.I couldn't figure out what that bright crack was until I zoomed waaay in on it, it's not a crack, it's the effect of the light shining through the pillars, after looking at it more I've made a to- do list

1.change ground texture

2. light interior

3.add puddles

4.Make a glasss texture that shows as glass, it looks more like grey plastic now:p

5.add more dirt and some grass

6.re-texture roof

Methinks I'll be busy for a while:rolleyes:

At first looked like an interior, maybe it is the perspective:confused:

Anyway, here's the final version

Brian,

I see you started using tS in 2004. I'm sorry, but I find it quite amazing that this is presented as a finished work. I can only assume that this is your first render from 2004.

I would strongly suggest you get to grips with the basics of 3D modelling/rendering before trying to present a complete scene.

Regards. Trebs.

I disagree.

The only thing I don't like about it is that the background looks a little too blurry. I hardly think it's fair to give people such hard advice. Where you see an unfinished piece of work, I, and I'm sure many others, see a nicely presented render. To each their own I suppose.

It's hardly fair to praise people for posting something in the finished artwork section when the finished artwork is seriously sub-standard. I offered perfectly constructive advice. Advice that was offered to me any years ago when I started with tS. Advice that stands firm today.

Get the basics right and the rest is easy.

The is no point in padding out the truth with cotton wool. 3D takes time and skill to master. After 2 years of tS ownership I would expect a slightly higher level of skill demonstrated here.

So you've been using tS for years too? Fantastic, I look forward to seeing your artwork too. Like I said, people are entitled to their own opinions.

Let's put myself down as an example... I've been using tS since I was 14, and I'm now 21. There have been times where I've created something and given up on it, but thought people might want to see it anyway. If I no longer want to work on it, should I post it in the WIP section, or the finished section. I'm afraid there isn't a "I'm bored of this one" section. There's a good way and a bad way to give advice. I advice you to learn the difference. Get the basics right and the rest is easy.

Trebs,

Who gave you the right to establish when an Artist can submit something as "finished"? You may not like it but to tell someone what you did is wrong.

I didn't say it was finished. He did :)

Posting in a public forum means you get to hear people's opinions. Like it or not, wrong or right. I really don't care, to be honest.

If it's complete in the mind of the artist, then it's complete.

This is a public forum where people usually post their personal artwork, not a forum for critiquing product intended for sale/advertisement, etc. Detailed suggestions for improvement are appropriate, but calling someone's artwork substandard is not appropriate. As for using ts since 2004, and not producing "at-par or better" quality artwork, bear in mind that some people may not have as much time as others available for dedication to their interests. Besides, as stated before, if the artist says it's done, then it's done.

BTW Brian. Looks good. I would suggest adding more detail to the background (perhaps a full moon?)

I see. I really am looking forward to seeing your work. Be careful what you post however, and also where you post it... otherwise people might get the wrong impression and hack away at your self-confidense. Just a friendly heads up.

If you used the gallery archive buttons, you'd find some of my work :)

As for the rest, your opinion; As valid as mine.

That requires effort for something I'm not sure is worth my time. I'd rather wait.

really, doing a search of the archives using trebs as the author name resulted in nothing.. so who do we search on to find YOUR work?

Now, now boys...this is a serious case of you say tomato and I say tomato...Yes, you should be honest but tact costs nothing and perhaps, as this is being offered up for appraisal and being changed as a result, it should be in the WIP section. Either way, no need for a fight...:D

Brian's choice really.

Actually trebledee was a tS beta tester, is an author of one of the pro-team courses, was spotlit in a Caligari One Man Show, wrote the sub-division modelling chapter of the trueSpace user guide, was co-organiser of the UK trueSpace users meetings, has had his artwork on the front cover of 3D World magazine, has had many Calligallery entries and was active on the old tS forums (the ones we used a few months back). He also used tS professionally in his occupation. He does know a thing or several about CG and tS.

Actually I enjoyed his work back when he used to post. He IS GOOD ! I certainly wouldn't come down on someone elses work like he did. Frootee said it best and I'll leave it at that.

If memory serves me wasn't it the rendering of a man and his dog asleep on a sofa? I don't remember the year.

Was a while ago - bloke being shot out of a canon in a circus tent - Trebs wrote a tut on how to do it inside the mag. They might even have given a trial copy of tS away on the cover disc too, I think.

One man show here;

Quite impressive but I still think the original comment was a bit harsh...after all isn't Brian 15 or something? Maybe just a suggestion that it should be a WIP would have been better. If I was negative to my students at that age I doubt they would have continued using TS.

Well, is that true Stoker, Hemulin?

I totally agree as well. According to his profile he is 14.

Hey, you all wave a finger at me for being rude..

This is Brian's topic, don't polute it with has-been tS artist tripe :D

On topic.

Brian, you got some straight talking from this side of the fence, I'm not here to sit on the fence or discourage you, and by the looks of it there are plenty of people about to encourage you even more.

keep going fella, this 3D world is an uphill struggle, learning the skills is a full time job/hobby. In the mean time, you've probably got the hottest thread at the moment, ride it! get rendering! :)

Good luck,

Trebs.

One splash of cold water may do more for your motivation than 10 warm, glowing reviews.
I'd comment on the render, if I could only make out what it is.
In other words, it's so dark I don't know what I'm looking at.
