I just finished this one up over the weekend...it's called "Evolution of the Universe." Enjoy!
Am I correct in thinking that the dead tree is the furthest tS object from the viewing point, & that the mountains & that rocky slope are a background image? Not trying to make any sort of point, just curious. |

Nice work Zachary - though I don't know if I could ever acheive such good results from such a low polycount!!
An interesting and evocative image.
Here's one I did over the weekend - I've never used tS 'Skylight' option before and I thought I'd give it a go. The background is an old Terragen picture in the Background shader. |

Ohhhhhh, sweet! I LOVE the lighting...and the background! I've used Terragen quite a bit myself. I can't WAIT for TGD2! |

Yeah, thanks, I was pleased with the lighting too - I usual spend a lot of time tweaking light settings but this one just came together nicely.
Re TGD2 or whatever it's called  - Planetside have just released an update to their Technology Preview - I've seen some impressive results but have yet to try it out myself. |

For that artpiece above, I actually used 3 lightsources: One Area Light for backlighting and shadows...a Goniometric light on top of the dead tree to get the right lighting there...and another Goniometric light in the foreground for a fill light. I would normally just use HDRI for that particular kind of scene, but I wanted the shadows coming in from the wall across the scene (compositional decision).
In that background pic I also took the liberty of doing a sky replacement. The original sky was less than desireable:

I often think there are psuedo-god-like powers involved with computer art - replacing undesirable sky's is a fairly god-like power!!
You mention goniometric lights - what is the advantage over ordinary point lights for a picture like yours? |

The difference is subtle, but you can pretty clearly see that the gonad light tends to light surfaces in a more photorealistic fashion (the standard light glares more...not really what I was going for).
I generally don't go for photorealism as much as a sort of "hyper-realism," but I still prefer the effect of gonad lights, IBL and HDRI...oh yea, and area lights:D It just all depends on what render engine I'm using:
1)Lightworks = IBL, gonad
2)V-Ray = Area Light, HDRI, gonad
okay, I don't necessarily use ALL those in a particular scene...just as needed!
I use the li'l light bulb for light bulbs. They're good lightsoursce lightsources...if that makes any sense:

Ah ok - that's interesting. I'll clearly have to experiment a little more.
As much as I now know about trueSpace I'm still painfully aware of how much I have yet to learn:p
One thing is sure - I'll be trying 'gonad' lights myself very soon.... |

Gonad lights! Classic:D
Digitaldali - love the texture work on the first images, very authentic and really like the fridge-in-a-field picture, nice twist on a fairly 'traditional' illusion (brings to mind that painting of a painting that blends into the landscape being painted)
W!zard - really like 'the Departure', nice mood and lots of detail, plus of course good re-use of those earlier elements. The vegetation looks great and I like the bit of fencing in the foreground. With the 'fruit study' (not sure you gave this a title?) the angle of the little finger seems a little extreme - I tried holding something in that way and my little finger won't bend that far back, but I'm not a svelte, graceful, maybe elf-like female of course! ;) So don't know if this was intentional or not.... |
