Ok folks... this version is brand new. Runs a bit faster using the mesh modification technique (materials specified in mesh changed to point to the appropriate on/off value instead of having a dedicated material per segment.

The included .rcd file has all of the elements if you want to import it into tS7. Runs fine directly in truePlay 1.21.

Also includes a new version of the moving text display.

This .rcd file is interactive. I've made the panels visible and you can edit the text and colors displayed. A good way to try them out. File is pretty small at 268K.

Here's a screenshot:

Admin: image too large.

Enjoy!

Awesome work TrueBlue! lol. Only took me 172 steps to complete. Guess I'm out of practice! :)

Thanks GraySho! :)

This all started because I've got a project where I needed a readout on screen to numerically display some parameters for a training sim. Wasn't sure how feasable the display was from the project's onset so I did it as a learning exercise in my own time. It kinda grew beyond the original need so I guess you could say I'm doing this version for fun.

Just for the record, I now use trueSpace on occasion at work. Not a full time artist by any stretch, but lets just say my hobby has finally paid for itself.

New goodies folks... this version generates dot matrix text using a bitmap instead of with geometry. The output of one script stage is even stackable for multiline/multicolor effects. Text may also be drawn on top of another bitmap.

Use it as input to any shader that uses bitmaps so you don't need to live with my own settings for reflection, shininess, transparency, etc. You'll have to provide the UV mapped object to paint the bitmap on but I'm sure you're used to doing that... :)

Bottom two images show chaining of scripts to create a multiline multicolor text overlay. The version shown is slightly older than the one being distributed but the concept and results are still the same.

Here's the script itself (along with an example UV mapped plane). Provided in .rcd format so it can be opened in truePlay 1.21 directly.

Enjoy!

Due to "project mutation" I've continued the topic in the following thead:

Posts about the original segmented display are still appropriate here. Just the bitmap based text overlay script (Dot Matrix Display MkVI) has moved.
