TomG: yes that definitely helps, thanks for all the details! I'm also _really_ impressed that this is all run on tS7. I didn't know tS7 had all the capabilities to support this, especially trueServe.

I couldn't find any details on trueServe specs or pricing on Caligari's web site, so maybe you could post a link for that. It sounds like it is only supported on Windows OS, which is much more limiting and much less scalable than a Unix platform. Any idea when tS7 and/or trueServe will be available for Unix?

Also, is the modelling language to model the truePlaces scenes proprietary, standard (like VRML2.0), or a hybrid? If it is proprietary, I suppose the only viewer/client that is supported is truePlay.

Thanks again and keep up the great work!

Quick one to Spacekdet.

That's what I see. I also don't get shadows in any of the rooms (I think they probably use semi transparent shadow maps or textured planes) and the potted plants appear as textured planes with no transparent areas.

I have an nVida GForce 400 card and realtime transparencies seems to be an issue in other programs on my system as well. Looks like we both need to upgrade. :( Oh well ... what's another couple hundred bucks, right?

GASP!
You mean to tell me my 5 year old hardware isn't up to the task!?
Who woulda thunk it?

This is the default scene that loads in truePlay1.2

Yeah, that's it, go ahead and rub it in.

Just think... if/when you get a new graphics card, it'll be powered direct from your computer, so no more waiting for the coal to be delivered. :p

Ah I was not trying to rub it in, only show what was missing. I have a crappy PCI video card too!

4. also in The Labs, the images on the walls shouldn't be low-res images, if this is a performance issue this should be solved rather than having low-res images as a bandaid, this is something I really never expected from Caligari since it has such a sophisticated 3D modelling product suite!

>> Hmm, we'll see. Thing about making them high res is people will be able to read them, then they will have to mean something :) The site is created to be generous to as many graphics card set ups as possible, so performance is of course an issue - extremely high quality textures are possible, but at a price for some users, and we want to try and keep things accessible for all. So we'll see on that one.

The truePlay engine is capable of hi-res texture display with no real loss in framerate, even with an ATI 9200.
No, the problem is more about file size and download time.

I know people will compare truePlay to a multi-users game. And they expect hi-res textures just like Half-Life2 offers.
But a game with hi-res textures comes on a DVD-rom... And truePlay install file is less than 10 Mb!
All the textures and geometry data are to be downloaded for each scene.
We decided to keep the scene files under 3 Mb to make it fast to download with common internet speeds.

It's got to be said that on a Radeon 9800 Pro it moves very fast with most effects...except-shadow filtering...:o

This makes shadows look jagged but there is no way around it with tP default scenes. However, if you are making your own scenes in tS7.11, then simply increase the shadow map size (in the LE) for spotlights and it helps.

Hi All; I finally got connected to truePlay last night. I figured it out I think. I went and un-installed truePlay then went to my computer and found the file truePlay and deleted it and then went and deleted from the recycle bin. Then i re-installed treuPlay. All worked fine. I have an ATI X1300Pro video card and had no prblems. Just have not figured out how to go to some of the different sections. To start I was at the ball field or what ever you call it. I then went to the jump area and clicked on the red box on the wall and was taken to the office. I saw stien and some others there. Not bad at all. When will all the rooms be opened? Have a great day all.

Hi All; Well I've done some more visiting to truePlay and figured out how to get around and all, as well as how to use the voice and speakers. Sound is a little distorted, sounds like a robot or something. Well have a great day all and I'll see you at the ball field. haha
