Wish next truePlay have 'disable auto download scene' option. so we still can login into truePlay server for text chating only. I think this feature is usefull for us that have very slow internet connection speed.

I'm just not convinced that would be justifiable. It seems to me an environment set up for voice and visual feedback would be a waste of time for a text based user.

I'll have to agree with Steinie on this one...although I fully understand and appreciate your desire to want trueSpace to be as "flexible" an application as it can be, it would contradict its main prupose as a collaborative 3D gathering place. In a way, it was kind of built specifically for broadband connections (and patient users with slower connections). Creative LOD implementations of these same worlds might ease download times for those on slower connections. Cache! Who couldn't use Cache!

You just can't take the "Place" out of truePlace, can you?

Just so there is no confusion, truePlay already features a cache. First time you log into a space, it has to download all objects and textures. Next time, it doesn't do that, it only downloads any changes that may have happened (which is nothing for the bulk of the scene, as most of the environment is static).

HTH!

I know it has one. I just meant for the slower connections that is what one would rely on.

By the way, what do you think of a system tray online notification icon in truePlace? I brought this up today in the "The Loft - an Audio Video Lounge and Park" (http://forums1.caligari.com/truespace/showthread.php?t=2718) thread. Not that I'd rather have attention be drawn away from trueSpace development, but for future truePlace development, I think it might be a good idea.

I like the tray notification idea :)

We have several ideas in our design doc for similar things, such as seeing a list of everyone online in all rooms at once (so if four rooms are empty and three have people, you can jump straight to the ones with people, etc). This kind of indication that there is a message or visitor etc is a good thing - I've sat in tP before, but missed it when people come through while I'm busy working, and all I see is the joined and left message.

So I will add this idea into the possibilities for what will turn up in tP2.0, thanks for the suggestion :)

Thanks!

Tom
